Hoping GNR plays a certain song, new or otherwise, is harmless. Speaking openly about those hopes is equally harmless.
But I agree that throwing it in the bands face once it doesn't materialize, like they owed it to you, is borderline insane. Thing is,
not everyone falls into that category.
Exactly. I'm one of those who get pretty excited and have all this expectation but I won't insult Axl or anyone when those things doesn't happen. When I say "let the people dream about it", I'm talking about the people who thinks like you or me.
Right, and like I said, Rio is going to kick ass no matter what. But whether some people like it or not, I am choosing to believe that they will most likely debut a new song(s) at Rio. If it doesn't happen, I'll shrug, and enjoy the livefeed.
Will I still buy tickets if they come to Chicago with a similar setlist? You bet your ass. See? Sane fan.

Nothing is ever ?most likely? regarding GN?R.
History, the media, comments etc. can?t determine exactly what will happen as things are continually subject to change.

I agree with Jarmo, I'm guessing rehearsals. They haven't played these songs in almost 2 years...
Here's hoping we get a new song though...

Why people need new songs ?? We have..
TWAT, PROSTITUTE, SR, SCRAPED, CITR, IRS, BETTER, ITW, SORRY, TIL
This Song NEVER Play In RIR
Out of those only Better, Sorry and This I Love were actually performed in Rio de Janeiro in 2010.
There Was A Time, Prostitute and Catcher In The Rye were not performed in Brazil or South America.
Scraped was only performed in Brasilia (on the whole South American tour).
I.R.S. was only performed in Sao Paulo (on the whole South American tour).
If The World was not performed in Rio de Janeiro.

it would be great if they played a new song, but either way GnR playing Rock in Rio is fantastic. hopefully they do TWAT at the show!

That's the point I was arguing on another forum. I saw them a handful of times since 2002 and while I've heard a bunch of the album live, there's still a lot of I haven't. I haven't heard Shacklers, Scraped, TIL, Catcher, Prostitute or Sorry live. Can't wait to hear them.

If I had to guess "workin' up some GnR songs" means hes writing a proposed set list. Maybe Axl has the band members each propose one, gets ideas from that, makes his final based on his and others thoughts.
Or maybe it means he's sitting in his place brushing up his chops
for
rehearsals.
The word 'new' was far too absent to assume anything else. But if there's gonna be an unleashed 'new' let it be ''Soul Monster''!

If they are debuting a new song, it would make sense to keep it under wraps until the show. I doubt he'd spell it out either way whether the GNR tunes he's "working up" are new or ones we know.
I will say that I think that whether or not new music is played at Rio will be very indicative as to whether the next album will come out in the near future. I guess that's one of the reasons that a lot of fans are rooting for it. Doesn't mean the next album won't ever come if they don't, only that chances are that it will come sooner if they do.

Sofine, yes, I agree. I don't think anyone eluded to a hint of what song in his comment, but I agree it's 10 years since he unveiled Madagascar, etc. It's the place to do it for sure.
I don't think it would be indicative of a new release, though, and if so based on the theory it would be in 7 years.
I do think it would show as a great sign as Axl's inspired to unveil something new, period. I.e. ''more coming, I'm still working on new things, so soon!"

Every member of the band has other musical things going besides GNR. I'm guessing that no matter how long you've been in GNR, when you're off for any length of time you'd need a bit to get back in the groove.

I had high hopes after reading that on Tommy's homepage to. But then I caught myself of thinking wishful
Don't have to mean anything else than reherse the songs he probably haven't been playing for almost a year.
We'll see in a month.
Anyway, it's fun being a part of this forum and analyze every comment made from a Gn'R member.

Seeing as that was held in Lisbon, I don't really count it as Rock In Rio, myself.

Playing "rare" new songs like Prostitute, Catcher and TWAT would be great! But last tour they did not sound that great... I think they stopped playing to work them out... maybe they?ll be ready now!
