Slash: I like to play Roses tunes

Friday, 22 July 2011

Slash has revealed he still has a ball performing Guns N' Roses hits.

Despite the animosity between him and rocker frontman Axl Rose, the former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist - whose real name is Saul Hudson - still plays some of the band's older tracks when touring.

"Playing the Guns stuff is a lot of fun for me because, for a long time, with the exception of It's So Easy and Mr Brownstone and various different bands, I didn't play any Guns and Roses material, especially not in Velvet Revolver because it just wasn't the thing to do," he told Leona Graham on Absolute Classic Rock.

"So when I started doing the solo idea, I wanted to be able to revisit all the material in my catalogue."

Slash, who celebrates his 46th birthday on July 23, added: "And so doing the Guns material was sort of exciting and fun for me, and I dig doing it. The audience obviously digs it as well."

He tries to find time to work on his upcoming second solo album in between his current UK tour.

"It should be out in March of next year. [I'm] writing it. We have amazing material, it's going to be an awesome record," he said.

"So I'm a little speechless, in terms of being excited about it. As soon as we get back, I'll commence pre-production and we'll probably go into the studio, in the winter."
