What a sad little group of posters you all are.  I see this turned into nothing but a let's hate on the Crue thread. Self righteousness runs abounds here I guess because you listen to what you like and everything else sucks.

Would you let people think what they want?

Thanks!

EVH is not the greatest guitar player. sorry

maybe the best tapper but put his solos against Slash's and their is no contest.

Didnt say EVH was my favorite guitar player, I said he was the best guitar player big difference, I'm talking technical proficiency.  This is off topic we can discuss this elsewhere.  But back on topic, i was referencing EVH's playing ability as to why Van Halen is a respected band in the music industry and Motley Crue not so much.  Factor in David Lee Roth's frontman ability, I can't believe you would ever put Van Halen in the same category as Crue when it comes to being a respectable touring partner for GNR, the greatest American rock band of all-time.  Van Halen has iconic classic american rock n roll songs and draws huge crowds despite not putting out a record since 1998.

But all that aside, and all the silly feuds between members of GNR and Crue over the years aside, Motley Crue sells nostalgia, that is it.  That is what their tours are based on, they are hardly pushing the envelope.  Axl and GNR on the other hand are doing a whole other kind of thing, as evidenced by "Chinese Democracy", and their recent touring.  I can't think of one reason why GNR would want anything to do with a Crue Tour.

LOL Hot For Teacher is a respected awesome song? Please

Listen to the first few Crue albums.. They are out fucking standing.

Tommy Lee is one of the 3 or 4 greatest rock drummers of all time.. so that gives them a bit of cred.. Mick Mars also is one of the more underrated guitarists also.

I absolutely think Van Halen are shit outside a few songs.   U can spit out "technical" stuff all u want... The dudes solos are a bunch of show off/wanking off. DLR is a terrible singer, surely no better than Vince who i WAY prefer over DLR and Hagar.   *disclosure* i am a blues based till i die guitar fan.... I am not and have never been a fanof the whole technical shredding/tapping stuff. Don't like it.. sounds like a bunch of angry bees that generally has nothing to do with the song and is just a section of the song used to show off how fast i can move my fingers...  Solos should be songs inside of songs and should take the song to a higher place emotionally.. I don't feel that with Van Halen. sorry

I think people here don't want cause Motley Crue are so equally big to GunsnRoses.

Remember the US "comeback-tour" Tongue

I don't know who GnR ideally should tour with, Enslaved is a pretty cool band thats "big/promising", if you can take the voice.

Motley Crue is considered a joke by many people, and their behavior really does fuel a lot of that.

So is the exentric Buckethead, but...

Their first 2 albums (and new tattoo) and theyr live-performances are really good, at least in rock-standard Wink

What does Eddie Van Halen, Slash, or Buckethead have to do with this thread?

How many guitar players Slash inspired? Maybe Synyster Gates (seriously?) and... who?
How many guitar players Eddie Van Halen inspired? Some of the very best, including Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Randy, Bucket, Bumble, Shawn, Govan... I could go on. If they weren't influenced directly by him, their influences were...

You shouldn't mention Slash and Eddie on the same sentence. Eddie was on another league technically, creatively and influentially - just like Hendrix changed how the guitarists played guitar, Eddie did... Then Vai, Lane, Satch, Morse... and then we have the new guys changing how people approach the guitar, like Bumble, Bucket, Mattias, Govan, etc. I know they aren't a big commercial appeal, but they are really respected by (respected) musicians.

Motley Crue will NEVER, EVER be as respected as Van Halen. They are actually important to rock n' roll and Motley just followed the Glam Metal/Hair Metal party.

I'm glad GNR denied them... I wouldn't be comfortable watching a poser pop/glam band co-headlining a tour with GNR.

what does influencing people have to do with anything??

November Rain and Sweet Child solos murder anything Eddie ever did.

Can he play faster than Slash? Sure.. but who cares?
Throw me a legendary Van Halen riff, and I guarantee Slash has one better.  Aint Talkin bout Love is amazing riff but compared to SCOM?? please
Adam Lambert can sing higher than Axl.. does that make him better than Axl? Of course not.

dude just cause you don't LIKE Van Halen doesn't mean you can discredit everything the guy did.  The only reason i brought up what a great guitar player he is was to show why Van Halen is a more respected band than Motley Crue.  "Jump", "Panama", "Aint Talkin Bout Love""Right now", are ingrained in American society. You seem to immediately discredit a guy if he plays fast as being emotionless, you can do both, a lot of players do.  Van Halen was about the music, Motley Crue was about the party, image, strippers, heroin etc.. Make no mistake Van Halen was a huge party band as well, but there is no denying there is way more musical substance in a Van Halen record than a Crue album.

Also I couldn't let this one slide, you'll defend Scott Weilands front man abilities to the death but question David Lee Roth's?  DLR practically invented the term front man.

What a joke,  Motley Crue only have appeal to the Rocklahoma and Addler's Appetite crowd.....to me it was always real simple.  Vince Neil will never be as cool as Axl, and before the crue lovers whine, I had Shout At The Devil in 1984, and it was great back then.

Here are the facts though:  Axl rocks Versace and parties with models and F1 types.  Vince spread hepatitis and kills people.  Pretty simple ehh?

PS, I'm a rabid fan of Axl, Buckethead and Motley. beer

Buckethead is not considered as a joke, but one of the best guitarists ever. period.

In the same manner that Motley Crue is considered one of the best rockbands ever, period. Taste...

Motley Crue inspired an entire decade...

SATD and Mick Mars have inspired lots of Black Metal bands and other genres/styles...so, the reason for no summertour with Motley must dictate in something entirely diferent. I think it's due to the magnitude of both bands, my 2 cents. peace
