According to Nikki Sixx:

ROCK MUSIC MENU: Sixx talks about tour drama

Published: Friday, July 15, 2011

It was the result of a fan poll the band took, Sixx said, that led to the decision to tour with Poison. Well, kind of. Poison was actually the third choice.

?The fans chose Guns ?N Roses first, Def Leppard second and Poison third and we?re like, ?Really?? he said. ?We talked to Guns ?N Roses, talked to Def Leppard, talked to Poison who was available and the other two weren?t. It just worked out.?

It was a surprise when the tour with Poison was announced, first at a solo show by Bret Michaels, which was then disavowed by M?tley?s management, and then again by Michaels on an interview show.

?Everything was fine, until Bret went on Piers Morgan and announced the tour when he knew he was supposed to do it with M?tley Cr?e,? Sixx said. ?It was a M?tley Cr?e tour with the New York Dolls and Poison supporting, and that really pissed off my band. We didn?t want the tour, because of the reasons not personally, but because of keeping things segregated and then when he went and took it into his own hands that it was like his idea ? yeah.?

?He was the one on the phone that told me he wanted to do it because his band needs credibility and M?tley Cr?e is a credible band ? it pissed us off, because we were sucker-punched.?

Wow, that would be absolutely, unbelievably, fucking awful. I'd rather eat my feet whilst they were still attached to my body.

So, Motley would've opened for GN'R?  Grin

That must've been the idea.... Anything else would've been silly.

I wonder if GNR refused b/c of the whole incident back in the late 80s when Izzy was punched by Vince and Axl threatened Vince.

I think that might have been a problem because Motley Crue live in a fantasy world where they don't think they should open for anyone.  Also Vince Neil continues to take shots at Axl regarding their feud in 89 as recently as a few months ago.  I don't know what happened behind the scenes but I really don't see how GNR would be remotely interested in that tour.  I think we would have just a good a chance as seeing Axl and Dave Grohl team up for a GNR/Foo Fighter tour as we do seeing a GNR/Motley double bill.  Also aside from the fact that they both came from L.A and rose to popularity in the 1980's they have nothing in common musically or artistically as far as I'm concerned.

Better off this way I would rather see GNR go out and do their own thing and maybe bring a few young up and comers out on the road with them.

ignoring omg they bands are not that far away, musicly or publicly and MC don't like the poison-association too much judging from earlier interviews.

Do it as the Metallica tour...which went to hell too Grin

GnR actually used to open for Motley, back in the day...before illusions-albums afaik.

co-headliner w/ Motley would have been great....I'm not the biggest fan but do like Shout at the Devil, Dr. Feelgood and St. Of LA....Motley came 1st n' were huge w/ Dr. Feelgood durings GN'Rs peek..And w/ original members they may have an arguement about being top bill. But GN'R are my all time fav. so I don't care who they play with!!

well it isn" option...why?If you want to be co headliner with some band you have to share profit on same pieces or popularity of the bands have to equal or same...In GNR & MC tour, you have one extremelly popular band Guns n Roses and one opening band MC...It isn"t posible co headlining tour between GNR and MC...GNR can do that with Metallica or bon Jovi, but also I don"t see interest for it because GNR can sellout arenas and stadiums across the globe

I can't stop laughing at the idea of Motley Crue touring with GN'R.

a) They'd be the opener
b) I wouldn't show up til I knew they were off stage
c) GN'R should never, ever, EVER tour with those clowns.

I know DJ could possibly be a uniting force here, having worked with them, and in Sixx:AM, but I have no desire to see Motley Crue. I hated them in the 80s. I hate them now. GN'R are timeless. MC is not.
