Duff McKagan reveals that he hopes to tour with ex-Guns N? Roses partner Izzy Stradlin later this year

June 11, 2011

Duff McKagan has exclusively revealed that he plans to join forces with his former Guns N? Roses band mate Izzy Stradlin for a global tour later this year.

The ex-GNR and Velvet Revolver bassist told RockAAA that he hopes to hit the road with his current band Loaded with Stradlin in support for a tour which will include stops on both sides of the Atlantic.

McKagan said: ?It would be, it will be, really fun to go to South American and the UK with Loaded and Izzy (Stradlin) to do a tour together.

?He and I have talked about it and it?d be great. At the end we?d do some songs together like ?Dust N? Bones? and ?Pretty Tied Up? or whatever.

?It would be really cool.?

I read about this the other day, but I thought Slash was mentioned as well.

He was mentioned but I'm not sure he will have the time. Or what Myles' schedule is. Slash has started the recording process for his new album. And he is producing a movie and writing the music for it. Production on the movie begins in August.

I agree Jarmo.  I think the last time Izzy did an extensive tour (outside of popping in and out of Gn'R for a bit there a few years ago) was, correct me if I'm wrong, 1993?  Seems pretty unlikely he would do an actual tour based on his past history, if nothing else.

Who knows if he will be able to work out a tour with Izzy, but Duff says in the interview that he's talked with Izzy about it.

McKagan said: ?I think what will be really fun, what would be really fun, is if Izzy and I and Loaded go to South American or the UK and do a tour together. He and I have talked about it and it?d be great."

And this from Izzy:

In an interview with TuneCore in late 2006 Stradlin said when asked if he would do solo tour dates: "For my own stuff, if this things takes off [referring to iTunes] and people start pulling the downloads off the net then yeh maybe I'll go out and do some shows to back it up. Until now I've never had a format to tour on, cos if I went to Japan I'd have to play the record that was released there, if I went to Europe I'd have to play the record that was released there. It's all been splintered y'know. But this oughtta make it worldwide, make it global. Lets see what happens."

Huh?  Where do you even get that out of the interview?  And, btw, who's New Guns?  Never heard of them.  Some new band?

Honestly, I'm very confused because the title of the article blatently states that he plans to join forces with Stradlin, and all Duff said was "it would be fun and we've talked about it..."  Plus - yeah - the statement of hitting the road with Loaded and Stradlin in support...wtf?

I guess - see his Twitter statement above.  Wow - things get so twisted.  He also said it would be fun and great to have Slash's band, Izzy, and Loaded on the same tour.  That would be great - but don't see it happenin'.

Buckcherry?s Jimmy Ashhurst urges Izzy Stradlin to consider Duff McKagan?s wish to see the return of the Ju Ju Hounds on the touring circuit

July 1, 2011

When Duff McKagan suggested at Download that he would like to tour with old Guns N? Roses partner Izzy Stradlin at some point this year, he opened a can of worms. At the time he said:

?It would be, it will be, really fun to go to South American and the UK with Loaded and Izzy (Stradlin) to do a tour together.

?He and I have talked about it and it?d be great. At the end we?d do some songs together like ?Dust N? Bones? and ?Pretty Tied Up? or whatever.

?It would be really cool.?

Tweeting later that it was probably just wishful thinking, McKagan cut the story down in an attempt to calm the clamour of voices which had started popping up on various forums excited about the prospect of another small piece of the great GNR reunion jigsaw falling into place.

But former Ju Ju Hound?s bass player, Jimmy Ashhurst, now of Buckcherry ,told RockAAA at Sonisphere Switzerland recently that the likelihood of seeing Stradlin?s re-emergence on to the touring circuit, even for a short run of shows, was very unlikely.

Still rankled at the way in which Stradlin left the Ju Ju Hounds high and dry during the recording of a second album in Trinidad, Ashhurst suggested that he would love nothing more than to be able to coax his friend out of the shadows.

Commenting on McKagan?s claim that a tour with Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds was a possibility and his subsequent recanting of the statement Ashhurst said:

?They (Guns N? Roses) are a confusing bunch of guys, right? If you listened to every rumour which came up in the last 25 years you?d go mental

?I?m not sure what Duff?s position on that is, or was, but from my perspective I find that (The Ju Ju Hounds) as having been a great experience and I find it hard to understand why you wouldn?t want to do 5 or 10 cities in the world to make a lot of people happy

?It?s not that difficult and if you don?t want to do press, then, don?t do press! He could pretty much make it under his own terms. So, for a guy like me who enjoys touring ? I find it difficult to understand?

When asked if he had heard anything from Izzy on the potential of getting the Ju Ju hounds back together in light of McKagan?s claims, Ashhurst was equivocal:

?I haven?t heard from Izzy, which is to be expected ? I barely heard from him when we were together! (laughs)

?He?s a private guy. After touring as long as I have, I understand his position all these years ago clearly. But that?s our fundamental difference of opinion

?Why wouldn?t you want to go out there and make a lot of people happy? That?s what this (music) is all about?

And Ashhurst remains very open to the idea of putting the Ju Ju Hounds back on the road:

?I actually tried to get a message to him. I said ?If you do it, I?ll pay my own way. It?s not going to cost you a dime?

?I?ll reiterate that now. If he wanted to do it, it wouldn?t cost him. I certainly wouldn?t take any money for doing it. It would be fantastic?
