Here Today...

« on: May 18, 2011, 09:46:13 PM »

GUNS N' ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba told Nui Te Koha of Australia's long-running rock station Triple M that the band's frontman, Axl Rose, has three albums' worth of new material written, most of which will never see the light of day.

"Axl has a lot of great songs up his sleeve," Ashba said. "He probably has three albums worth of stuff recorded.

"The stuff I've heard? I've been up in his hotel room many nights and he just sits down at the piano and plays. I'm like, 'This is amazing. People have to hear this song.' And he's like, 'Ah, this is something I'm tinkering on.'

"He's just a genius when it comes down to music and I just cannot wait to sit down with an acoustic guitar and just write. He's just got this gift that's very, very rare."

In addition to Ashba and sole original member Axl Rose (vocals), the current lineup of GUNS N' ROSES includes guitarists Ron Thal and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer.

You know how we use to try to figure out a way to break into Axl's car or that metal box he carried to get to the cd?  Do we have anybody who can fit in the air ducts at the motel?  We need a plan!

We know Dj! Wink

Nice to see some positive comments every once in a while.

But of course it's often ignored by the "cool" kids.

jarmo, I don't mean to be abrupt. But the reason why this thread has not got many replys is simply because, people have heard this kind of thing before. Sebastian Bach said the exact same thing a few years ago.

Yes, it's a nice comment by DJ. But I don't think people are ignoring it, because they think that they are "cool". I think it's just a matter of them thinking, "didn't I hear this same comment by another one of Axls' close friends like 2 years ago".

We've heard enough about the 3 album thing, I think at this point people are still slightly dissapointed that the Baz "trilogy" plan, never materialised.  no

DJ Ashba just seems like a good guy who speaks his mind

I doubt his intent was to create another false hope about what's in store

He clearly gets along well with Axl and got a chance firsthand to witness something that most never do...Axl running through some of his piano melodies that have never been put into songs

I don't think anyone should be shocked that there's a ton of undeveloped ideas at this point, either

Hopefully some of them get figured out.....

I never said you mentioned it, did I?.  Tongue

I'm simply saying that a GN'R fan who are on the boards, is going to draw the comparrison from the Baz comment about the "trilogy", by reading DJ's comments.
It really isn't that hard, since trilogy means 3 an all....

And maybe people don't want to get excited again about Axl sitting on 3 albums worth of material, because we've been told this on and off, for the last 9 years...

That's why the thread isn't as popular, because people think they've heard it all before.  Roll Eyes

There's a bit more to this interview that hasn't been posted yet, and it's not good news...

Fans expecting a new Guns N Roses record in the near future might be in for a bit of a wait. According to Blabbermouth.net, Ashba went on to tell Triple M presenter Nui Te Koha that most of Axl?s new tracks will never see the light of day.

We already knew the man's a genius, I wish he'd let us hear it on record!!

Source?

I just checked the original link, and nowhere in that original story is that statement made.

Blabbermouth tacked that onto their regurgitation of Triple M's story, but Triple M themselves did not put that in there.

There's something weird about that.

@One.In.A.Million: Why are you so negative about this? Isn't it great to hear the GnR camp is up n running, and Axl's creative mind is as good as ever? The headline is maybe a little out of context, because what he said was "3 albums worth of stuff recorded", wich is a total different thing than sitting on 3 albums. We heard similar stories before, but I'm happy every time news like this comes out, because it shows that we can expect great things in the future yes
And it don't mean that people are ignoring just because they don't add a post or response. Like me, I read lots of post here every day, and most of them are very interesting.

Sad that some of the tracks probably never will see the light of the day though. But that probably also means we gonna get the best out of this genious songwriter!

Agreed, and shows just how much the media can run amuck with a given story.

However, I will say that the conflicting news we're getting from the band regarding to the next album is somewhat troublesome.  DJ says they're working on tracks for the next album "every day" and that he's been writing WITH Axl, while Tommy & Dizzy both state GNR is on a break until October with no current plans for another album.

Then again, DJ's gotten excited before and made similar statments, remember when he said that the next album wouldnt take as long and would be done in 2011, only to be quickly rebuked by Ron?  Maybe he just gets a little excited since he hasn't been "in the trenches"as long as the other guys and makes overly enthusiastic comments based on that.  Thing is, comments like that don't really help fans keep their expectations in check.

Agree 100%...

I actually said this in the thread when DJ stated that "GN'R are working on new material everyday".  hihi

But I got attacked by the higher powers, for being unsupportive and for bashing DJ because I liked the person who he replaced better.  Tongue

I've learned to keep my expectations in check.  Axl said way back there the plan was cd, 2 years later another and another 2 years after that.  Tommy's recent interview tells it all if you ask me.  Everything gets fucked up when the label gets/has to be involve.  I don't care how excited the band gets, until they get the product out to us, there's always a chance the label is going to kill it.

As Axl said in 2008:

Quote
Fan: Axl do you really have 2 or 3 other albums of material?

Axl: For now we'll concentrate and keep our focus on this album but I will say I've always thought of it as a double.

People like to dismiss what band members say, while making their own assumptions on what was meant.

If you paid any attention to what has been said, you would know that the band didn't just record the 14 tracks that appear on Chinese Democracy.

The difference seems to be that some think "a new album" means the band has to write and record something from scratch and that's impossible since GN'R are on a break.

Just because the band hasn't sat together in a room somewhere this week to write new songs doesn't mean nothing can be released.

And if Dj wrote a riff/song this week that he thinks could work well with GN'R, doesn't mean the other guys had to be in the room with him for it to be true.

I think a lot of fans forgot (or just don't know) that Axl recorded enough tracks during the Chinese Democracy sessions for two or three albums.  Axl's smarter than to blow his wad and put all the best tracks on the first one, so I'm sure that he's got some other fantastic tracks lined up for the next one.  In fact, Axl, Richard, Chris, Brain & Baz have all stated that their favorite tracks are all ones we haven't even heard yet!  (Soul Monster, Beta's Barn, Seven, & The General).

Thing is, if he does plan to release it any time "soon" the rest of the band seems to be completely in the dark about it.

I don't think the band is in the dark.

I think the band knows better than we do what needs to be in place to get an album out.

If you saw Tommy's comments about the record company involvement in Chinese Democracy, or read Axl's comments, it's obvious it's not just about having the material ready.

True, and that's such a shame.  With all the crap that record companies pump out these days, I have no idea what they are thinking putting the brakes on realeasing another Guns N' Roses album.

Even if CD sold below expectations domestically, it still sold a hell of a lot better than most modern rock releases, even with the lack of promotion and support from the record company.  The next album would probably do similarly, if support is given.

Maybe that's the holdup.  After what went down with CD's release, maybe Axl's waiting for a concrete gaurantee from the label regarding marketing and support for the next one before they go forward.
