I'm looking around for ways to get there too. I'm from the Netherlands.

Does anybody know a place to stay and where I can find information on how to get from and to the airport to the venue etc?

When I have ever had any doubts about how I'm going to get to a venue, I always take enough money for a long taxi ride. I know that you can't always do that, but I would rather actually do it, than to rely on public transport and the danger of getting totally lost.  hihi

That's just me though, over my 23 GN'R shows, I bet I've spent a stupid amount of money on taxis, but at least I know for certain I'm gonna get straight to the venue.  Wink

Well after a quick search myself, I think that it's not going to get any cheaper than what you quoted.  Embarrassed

You can fly direct from Heathrow (LHR) to (GIG) Rio, using British Airways.

You can also fly direct from Paris (CDG) to (GIG) Rio, using Air France.

And you can fly direct from Lisbon (LIS) to (GIG) Rio using TAP Portugal.

And also you can fly direct from Madrid (MAD) to (GIG) Rio, using Iberia.

(Although I'm not certain, I would imagine there would be more direct flights from other various citys, this was just a quick search. And also for every one of these direct flights there are usually another 2 or 3 that are stops offs or multiple transfers. You need to search for the specific dates, to make sure the flights are available on that day)  ok

But the prices range from around ?770, upwards. (889 Euro). And I don't think it's going to get any cheaper, flights to a different continent are always going to be expensive. I remember the price of my London to las Vegas, and London to Toronto flights to see GN'R. Come to think of it, they were similar to the quoted prices for the Rio flights.  Wink

if you want a cheap and a fun place to stay (if you can live with zero privacy) go to a hostel. I correct myself: LETS GO to a hostel!! Copacabana has some good options.

From Rio's airport (Rio Galeao) you can take a taxi or (much better) take a bus. Buses come very frequently, and they are very cheap. In half an hour more or less you'll be in Copacabana.

Really? I payed about 480 euros for Amsterdam - Toronto. On my way to Toronto I had a stop in Frankfurt on my way back I stopped in London (Heathrow)..
If you're looking for a plane ticket and you are in the position to arrive a couple of days earlier/later just play with the arrival and departure dates for a bit. You'll find out it sometimes makes quite a difference!

Yes it did for myself, because I wanted to arrive there 2 days before the show and wanted to fly back 3 days after the show, so I had about a week in Toronto. If I wanted to choose any other dates it probably would have been slightly cheaper, but I feel if your going to do something, you might as well do it right, and how you want to do it, even if it does cost you alot more.  Wink

I have some hostel recommendations if anyone wants them; cheapish, clean and friendly etc.

I was in Rio last September and I can honestly say it is an awesome place. If you have the means and are wavering (too far, different language/culture etc); all I can say ?s JUST GO !!

One of the world's greatest cities and the greatest rock band in the world today. Nothing will beat this.
