If you didnt like it ,your opinion is just another opinion! The fact is that Axl and the guys made me and a lot of people have a lot of fun!

Glad you had a great time and finally got to hear Estranged performed.  It certainly is an incredible song live isn't it.  The contrast between the vulnerability of the lyrics and swoopingly haunting melody really stirs the emotions.

As you say, Axl and the band gave an awful lot of people a night to remember and that's what's important after all.

He is the main attraction yeah, lots that think Axl is 'meh' but follow DJ, Richard instead follows gnr tho.

and you can praise his voice all over, it overall just wasnt a good performance by Axl, it worked only for a few songs.
off course on this board it was the best ever regarding the circumstances 

I liked it, considering conditions...remember we are (I assume) corefans and oldschool. You expect revolution?

Vocally, stylistic (lets not talk about the raincoat k? xD) and musicly this was, imo, a promising throughout performance by Axl.

For those who said his voice needs some work to get into game shape, that's not an unreasonable claim to make. 

I disagree...song-choice, vocal-usage in songs and lenght of the show they should work on instead.

No 50+ rock-singer _in history_ matches Axl's performance here.

However, I think we're getting bogged down in arguing about one night that may not have been his best effort (it's ok to admit it! - live shows are imperfect by nature, and the conditions were awful), and losing sight of the general fact that it's amazing that he's been able to sustain the vocal style that he has for this length of time. Most people who sing like Axl would have no high range left by now, and I think that he has actually added to his, so there's that.

During the show, equipment started to malfunction. Dead guitars etc...during NR I think it was monitor-issues.

You can hear in Patience before Axl says he is pissed and shakes his head that his Mic goes on/off.

Ok, NR and Patience = fail, but I disagree that most songs wasn't great, even stunning in moments.

I only admit the usage of his trademark-singingstyle can be excessive at times and thus looses some it's edge, richness and power in periods...his voice is obviously still signature 'Axl Rose' tho, not even the haters can fail to hear how mean he sounds when he gets warm. The new melodylines he does after KOHD goes wild is really beautyfull and here the shifts between ripping scream and high falsetto creates the experience. For me at least

This tour gonna be good, he also looked more physicly fit now (than in 2010) aswell.

Loved the costumes and dance, I'm not the biggest fan of so much endless soft songs but estranged = win.

I personally think that he hurts his vocals during Live and Let Die when he screeches as long as he does, and it effects the rest of the performance. Don't get me wrong, I also think he still sings awesome, I just wonder if it could be like it used to be if they drop LALD.

Look, what people don't realize about Axl's voice is that it's always been like this at the first few shows... 

Rio 2001, Monterrey 2007 and now Rio 2011. This is the start of a long tour, so Axl's voice has to take shape and work it's way around to his signature state. Axl hasn't been putting on 2 and a half hour rock concerts regularly for a long time, so it's just got to work to get there.

Is it just me?  But, if I were a lead singer in a famous band, about to be starting a long tour, especially starting in a place like Rio, I'd have my voice in shape already and already worked around to its signature state before I even got on stage for the first show.  Plus, how can you forget words to songs you've been doing for years?  Happens once in awhile, but, come on.....

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm a little worried, because it sounds like his voice wants to break at a point that it doesn't usually have problems with and it doesn't sound like he had good diaphragm support to me, but hopefully it's just a little rust that he'll get rid of in no time - by tomorrow night, I guess.

It seems like everytime they go on tour someone says he's more physically fit. If he was getting fit at the rate some people seem to think, he'd be ready for an MMA bout by now. He looks fine, though.

I hope Axl's voclas loosen up throughout the tour, not his best performance. The band should tighten up too. Amazing to hear Estranged again, the guys did a really decent job of it. I love Guns N' Roses so much but this show didn't have that magic that there can be. There were amazing moments here and there but if everyone was honest with themselves we know its not a great performance overall. Its easy for me to be critical, I don't have to get up there and do it. But I'm a life long fan and I know how the band has sounded live throughout the years and this is just ok. I believe the band will all tighten up throughout the tour and I pray Axl's voice gets back on track.

Were you actually watching it in the audience at Rio or are you just another armchair critic?  Shows become "magic" when you're there in the audience experiencing it first-hand, not sat in front of a computer screen listening to a feed that can't come close to what you get live.

Yes of course, I get that. Being there and watching a video recording is completely different but I still know Axl's vocals weren't at his best. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is amazing and want him to perform well all the time. Its just my opinion, maybe the people in Rio didn't notice. You can look back over previous performances and notice the difference. I don't really care though as I expect it'll improve as tour progresses.

Hmmmmm.....Saw some of the vids and it was very hit and miss. Axl always seems to be that way at the beginning of a tour. I was playing You Could Be Mine from the show and my wife in the next room couldn't believe it was Axl, she thought it was from the singer audition I had the other night. In other words, not so good. It's not easy as a vocalist, there's no question. I'd say that my only disappointment, though, is that they're not playing any new tunes. I'd love to hear new material like everyone else.

I ask because while I agree that vocal exercises can greatly improve your vocal conditioning level, in all honesty, I don't know if any vocal exercise or amount of vocal exercises can ever mimic the rigors of a live show and touring schedule.  Though I've never toured, I speak from experience in terms of the live performance angle.  I think it's inevitable that his voice will be in better shape at the end of a tour than it was at the beginning of a tour.

As far as forgetting the words, does anyone remember the national anthem by Christina Aguilera at the Super Bowl this year?  She flubbed the lyrics even though by her own admission she has been singing the song her entire life.
