Duff Mckagan was doing signing sessions at the UK Guitar Show which was being held over the weekend (26th & 27th Feb) in Birmingham. I wanted to go to meet one of the people who have inspired me and who's music has been the soundtrack to my life. Guns N' Roses has only ever had 2 Bassists, and Duff was a huge part of Guns N' Roses from 85 - 97.

As soon as I met Duff I instantly let him know that I was a huge Robin Finck fan and that I tended to follow the latest incarnations of Guns N' Roses. Duff was as nice as could be and was talking to me and asking me questions about myself. I introduced myself as a member of HTGTH and told him my username, to which he was genuinely interested as to what the site was. I asked him that I heard he played with Robin around 97, and I asked what he thought about Robin. Duff replied that he played with Robin around 96-97 and that he thought robin was a nice guy.  Smiley

I also told him that I loved all Guns N' Roses members and always held himself and Slash in high regards. And Duff was nice as could be, and stated that there is no point in taking sides, and I think Duff is right on the mark. I also asked if he could sign my copy of 'The Spaghetti Incident', which he was only too happy to do.

Duff was amazing to talk to and I feel priveledged I have got to meet such a nice person, and someone who cares about the fans.

Thank You Duff for making all of the fans who came to see you over the weekend, very happy indeed. ok

Cool! And he's so right, there really is no point in taking sides! Why people hate Axl or Slash just because they don't get along anymore is beyond me.

I agree, some fans take sides just for the sake of being loyal to one over the other. I treat all GN'R members the same, I often praise past members and at the same time, let my true feelings be known about current members. I hate fans who take sides just because they feel they have to, it just isn't needed.

Duff is right, there is no need to take sides.  Wink

I actually never realised that Duff was once in GN'R with Robin, must have only been for a few months. Duff was very complimentary towards Robin actually, because it was kind of loud at the guitar show, he couldn't hear the name properly at first. Then he said "Oh Robin, yes Robin is a very good guy", and then he went on to say that it was around 96-97, when he played with him.

Duff really was the nicest person I've met, what a gent.  love

I'm really glad you had fun, I remember meeting Duff McKagan and Gilby Clarke....I have photos of Gilby...Duff came up to me at the end of a gig and had a few words with me, said he'd been watching me getting kicked by the person behind for about 2 hours cause I was hogging the front rails, so he gave me one of his guitar picks in return

Haha, I do actually agree with you, I just totally forgot about him.

My GN'R trivia caught me off guard for a little while there.  Wink

I've always liked Duff and have enjoyed reading his column for some time. Would be a great pleasure to meet him in person and have a little chat.  Smiley

You would love meeting him.  Wink

I admit to everyone on here that my primary love is GN'R from 1999 onwards, which obviously doesn't include Duff. But, I was stoked to meet him (in my Robin Finck shirt), and we had a few laughs about various things.

Duff is such a nice guy, and I feel extremely lucky to have met him.  Smiley

No he wasn't. He was the bass player for the first ever Guns N' Roses show - but none after that.
