Not even sure that GNR would be able to play t the Garden, as they are renovating it.

Just heard that... bad news for us if GNR is planning to do couple of shows this fall in NYC

Would be cool if they announced some dates later this year, or for next year.

If I'm not mistaken - there are concerts and events scheduled there as early as October/November so I assume it will be done before then?

they have a lot of events scheduled there in November - so they will be done by then!

Phase 1 is supposed to be done in time for the Knicks (yeah right...with the lockout, I don't think that's a worry) and Rangers to start their regular seasons on time.

The Rangers first home game is Oct 27th.

The Knicks first home game is scheduled for November 2nd.

Should be open sometime just prior to that.

Phase 2 will start next summer (2012).

Phase 3 (the final one) will run the following summer (2013).

NYC is the biggest city in the US, there's gotta be way more than one place Gn'R can play. Hell, Vegas only has 2 million people in the valley and there's a good 8 venues here I can think of off the top of my head....

actually believe it or not The Garden is the only place for a band like GNR to play in NYC.  Now the Garden will be open Nov-May, so they could easily play there.

Other venues in the area are Nassau Coliseum in Long Island (which is a shithole), Izod in Jersey which isn't terrible, and the new arena in Newark which is great.

its going to take 3 years, but they will be open during the basketball/hockey seasons.  It is also a pain in the ass to go there during the renovations, you have to go to a different floor just to use a bathroom in some cases.  The entire floor is gutted right now,

A run of shows at Hammerstein, the Beacon, Gramercy, Terminal 5, etc. would be a nice compliment Wink

Nassau Coliseum is a shithole.  Looks like that reno got voted down, too.

MSG is the best option IN NYC, especially during cold weather (there's a bunch of places they could play out doors).

They could do shows relatively near by though.  The Casino's in CT, The Pepsi arena in Albany, couple places in Jersey (the Prudential Center in Newark, Mercer County Arena in Trenton).  You could draw off big chunks of NYC population for those shows.  Not like you could with MSG...but still possible.

And they've got concerts scheduled during the Basketball and Hockey season, there...so inconvenient facilities or not, they could easily book the venue for shows.

Aside from rumors, is there even any real indication that Axl and the boys intend to tour the US?

Considering the economic downturn, I don't think this would be the right time to attempt a US tour. If they do, they should stick to a handful of major markets and have a new product to promote.

I'd hate for these shows to garner so little attendance that Axl decides to boycott the US altogether in the future.

Well, unfortunately, the US economy is "gloomy" at the moment.

I was on a staff call at work today where facility closures, layoffs, and hiring freezes were discussed.

I follow the market pretty closely, so I know that this isn't an isolated incident.

If people are out of work, I can't see Axl being a "must have" for most American families.

That's all I was saying.

The economy isn't bad only in the USA.

It's true, when people have less money to spend, entertainment isn't a top priority for many.

But at the same time, many people need something to entertain them in times like these.

What I find amusing is people constantly whining about shit. They whine about how the album didn't sell, how nobody cares about it, then they whine about there not being an US tour, then they whine about the shows not selling out, how there's no new "product" to promote.

Who not use all that energy for something positive?

What you're doing has been done before. Trust me.

One minute these "fans" are saying nobody cares about GN'R and didn't buy the album, then they're wondering why GN'R won't tour in the USA.. But when there's talk about an US tour, they're saying nobody will go, then they want a new album so you they repeat the same cycle again.

It's boring.

You go to a fan site to try to bring fans down? What's the purpose?

First and foremost, I'm not here to bring anybody down. If what I'm saying has been "done before" as you said, that's not surprising. I didn't think that I'm the only realistic fan out there.

Like you said, when people don't have much money, they probably only spend that money on what is essential. Unfortunately, it's unlikely that Axl would be considered essential to most. I get that this is a fan site, but I don't think that makes anything that I said less fan-like.

I attended multiple shows during the last US tour. Some sold well, some not so much. If Axl attempts his first US tour in the middle of, what some are calling, the worst economic downturn of our time, I don't see that selling overly well, especially if he's touring behind an album that he has already done so multiple times. I know that he hasn't toured the states since the album release, but a nice portion of those songs have been played live both in the states and elsewhere. I think a few "new" CD songs would do little to sway most to these shows.

On a more positive note, hopefully there is no reason to concern ourselves with any of this. Hopefully, the economy will turn around and hopefully Axl will decide to debut some of this crazy cool previously unheard stuff that we've been hearing about for years now.

[Edit] I guess that I should clarify that my "complaining" is more of a concern that if Axl comes to the states and only gets mediocre or less attendance, he may just say to hell with coming back. It's a "gloomy" thought, but I don't want to see it happen.

Your viewpoint seems pretty black and white. I have tickets to see a few bands thus fall that don't sell anywhere near what CD sold. A tour can be mounted easily by finding the right ticket prices, the right venues, supporting acts, etc.

You know what I hope?

That once there's an US tour, all the fans who've spent years whining about there not being a tour get excited about it and share that excitement with people around them instead of the usual boring fucking whining about the setlist, who's not there, the fact that GN'R doesn't end their shows before 10PM etc.

One can only dream.....

There's nothing "realistic" about ignoring facts and sticking to the negativity. Which is what you seem to do.
I've seen you do that in a few threads already and you didn't even hit ten posts yet.

You're right.

All of the things that you mentioned would contribute to a more successful tour, but when was the last time that you bought a cheap GNR ticket or saw them with a support act that was considered commercially relevant?

I do hope that they are looking at all of their options to ensure a successful US tour, if in fact they are planning a US tour.

I believe you mean fucked!  hihi  My friends and I are staying home and drinking.  Sorry, love GNR, but I think they are going to have a rough time in the US.  On the other hand, people sold out the U2 concert at some outrageous price and stood all day in the excessive heat to see them so what do I know.
