I know I'm not in the business but I'd wait and see how the summer concerts sell.  The US economy isn't getting any better.  I'm going to have to pass if they tour this year.

so far summer concerts are selling great...i got vip general admission to  Metallica's Big 4 show at Yankee stadium, you had to kill someone to get them they sold so fast..and they were 270 a pop...Rockstar Uproar is also doing very well as well as other festivals...  Even a bad economy wont stop most people from seeing GNR for the first time in 5 years i dont think.

There is an alternative.  Ticket prices can and actually have been adjusted from what I can see, to entice people to come out to shows.

Yeah, if you listen to the whole segment with Jim Koplik, he speaks very positively about the sales of most of the summer shows going on now.  So while the economy does still suck, they're at least putting a positive spin on things.

I got quite a different impression.

I listened to it and heard Koplik say that there were "tickets available" and "all sections available" and "most sections still available" for all of these shows.

A lot of those instances though, he would say they were selling well or will eventually sell out.  So like I said, he could've just been putting a positive spin on things.

I hope for a US tour too, but I wouldn't think it would be before RIR.  Maybe they do a small warmup show or so, but not a full tour.  I would hope (suspect) a US tour would follow the dates in Latin America.  At least that seems to be somewhat of the plan.  Hopefully it works out that way.

not that it means anything, but the 02 and 06 tours of the U.S were both in the Oct-Dec range...so hopefully this one follows suit.  Then again, they can play whenever and Ill be there.

Yeah, another thought, and obviously this is pure speculation.  I would think that with Rock in Rio being as big a deal as it is, that they'd want to focus solely on that for now.  IF they announced plans for a US tour before then, that might take away from the excitement or importance of that gig.  Of course, I guess you could view it as just adding to it as well.  But I would think any additional plans would be made, or at least announced afterwards.  It seems to me this band usually takes things one step at a time, as plans often change.  So it might be best to get through these shows in early October, and then go from there.  I guess it COULD be possible for them to embark on a US tour starting in November, I just view it as wishful thinking at this point.

But don't forget: After the South American dates Fortus is on tour with Thin Lizzy. This tour ends on november 22. Tour dates with GN'R are pretty unlikely for this time.

Which is assuming that Fortus is definitely doing the Thin Lizzy tour.  We don't know exactly what would happen if a conflict were to occur.

Fall US tour?

I pursued Jim in relation to this (specifically about the possibility of a tour, Azoff and whether such a tour would be continuity to the prior World Tour or in support of another concept entirely). Koplik gave the following response:

Quote
I think you will see them tour in the fall and play Foxwoods or indoor Comcast. I don't know the theme of the tour.

Wow, that would be great! Foxwoods is a great venue, not a bad seat in the house.

I would not expect a Foxwoods gig. Mohegan Sun makes more sense than Foxwoods. The venue is better suited to have a band like Guns N' Roses. Just keep that in mind.

Yeah, I would expect Mohegan too.
I'd be happy with either, but would prefer Foxwoods.
Relatively big acts like Jeff Beck and AIC have played there, but bigger bands like STP , Soundgarden, Alice Cooper have played Mohegan when in town.

Wait, so a promoter who works with putting concerts together is mentioning two possible venues where he thinks GN'R might play, and you guys are suggesting a third?

So are you saying what he says is not reliable? I mean, since he doesn't seem to be able to get the venue right....

All I'm saying is looking at capacity and comp'd tickets ratio, Mohegan Sun makes more sense. 12,000 seats versus 4,000 seats and both casinos will deliver comp'd tickets like crazy. The good seats too.

I can speak to this, a bit:

Koplick has often done just that....mistakenly referred to Mohegan Sun as Foxwoods.  Not EVERY time, but often enough to be remarkable.  They're, literally, about 10-15 min apart, they're both casino venues, and they're both pretty good sized....and for the longest time, Mohegan didn't really have an arena.  Professional hazzard, maybe?  I don't know.  But he's done it at least a half dozen times on WCCC, and then had to correct himself.  Just like he still calls the Comcast "The Dodge" or "The Meadows" every so often.

I don't KNOW that's what happened this time....but it's possible, at least.

Fox Theater (at Foxwoods) is set up more like a theater, as you would think by the name....think Hammerstein Ballroom without the GA Floor (more orchestra type seating, instead).  It's a GREAT theater..but not a great venue for concerts. Capacity is about 4k.   MGM Theater at Foxwoods is similar in setup (I can' comment on how nice it is...I haven't been there yet) but much newer (and in the MGM complex). Capacity is also about 4k.  Both seem on the small side, and neither has hosted much in the way of "big name" shows in recent years.

Mohegan is an actual Arena...they host the CT Sun WNBA team...and it's a more traditional Arena setup.  They get bigger acts, frequently (Bon Jovi, the Motley/Poison tour, Def Leppard and a LOT more).  Capacity is AROUND 10k with end stage/floor seating set up.

Indoor Comcast (aka The Meadows, aka The Dodge) is an indoor/outdoor venue that can be closed up in the Winter.  It seats about 7500 indoors.
