AP Source: Usher, Slash slated for Super halftime

Usher and Slash are heading to the Super Bowl.

By HOWARD FENDRICH
AP Pro Football Writer

DALLAS ?
Usher and Slash are heading to the Super Bowl.

A person familiar with the plans for Sunday's halftime show told The Associated Press that R&B star Usher and former Guns 'N Roses guitarist Slash are slated to make surprise appearances.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Wednesday, because the musicians' performances were not going to be announced.

Usher and Slash are supposed to join the Black Eyed Peas, who are the main halftime act for Sunday's NFL championship game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers at Cowboys Stadium.

Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am is featured on Usher's hit single "O.M.G."

Slash has performed Guns 'N Roses song "Sweet Child o' Mine" on tour with the Black Eyed Peas; he also collaborated with Black Eyed Peas member Fergie on the song "Beautiful Dangerous" last year.

The NFL announced in November that the Black Eyed Peas would be the featured Super Bowl halftime performer. Past halftime acts have included U2, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Paul McCartney and Prince.

I hope it's "Beautiful Dangerous".

It's not. I mean I love Slash as much as the next guy. But when most of America see's Slash they're thinking SCOM ; for marketing reasons it's gonna be a Gun's song for sure.

I've seen Fergie do SCOM so many times, I hope that's not what they do.  With a 30 second spot during the Super Bowl going for 3 million dollars, you'd think Slash would want to do something to highlight his album.  But maybe he doesn't have a say on what's performed.

It's going to be Slash coming out and wanking off on his guitar over some Black Eyed Peas song. Kinda like that crap he did with Jamie Foxx awhile back.

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do. It wasn't a glove, believe me.

I agree, I think he's just there to support the Black Eyed Peas.  It's THEIR performance, so I wouldn't expect any solo Slash or GNR to be played.  At the most he may play play one of his famous solos in conjunction with one of THEIR songs.

I bet it's Sweet Child O' Mine -- or part of the song.

I hope it is just Beautiful Dangerous, or Barracuda.   I don't really like the idea of Slash playing GNR songs with the BEPs.

He'll be there anyway...

From SPIN:

So perhaps it's not surprising that the NFL is returning to comparatively edgier pop music again with this year's halftime act the Black Eyed Peas, who, according to Will.i.am, will deliver an eye-popping spectacle worthy of the Bowl's status as Most Watched Television Event of the Year.

Peas' creative director Fatima Robinson will choreograph a 15-minute medley of songs that features some outrageous new dance moves and an over-the-top wardrobe.

If that's really a police escort, it's the smallest one I've ever seen. I think she's making it up.

I think Axl is fully vindicated on why he doesn't want anything to do with that guy... not only is he a sellout, attention getter, what's worst is he's using the GnR moniker when clearly, he left that band a long long time ago.  Plus I think after watching the intro Finck, Ashba play it better.

AXL SLASH DUFF = GOAT

« Reply #18 on: February 06, 2011, 08:27:12 PM »

Do they have to get Axl's permission to perform this?

At least they weren't lip synching.  And it goes to show what a legacy GN'R left behind.  But to a large extent I agree, Slash is a prostitute Wink

That sucked a bag of dicks. Slash's worst crime to date by far.
