I was a teenager going from casually listening to music to getting into music..I was a big Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill fan discovering other rap.. My KISS and Twisted Sister tapes were gathering dust and I was gravitating towards RUN DMC N' Public Enemy..Than I heard AFD N' I haven't looked back!!!!

Appetite was definitely a life changer as well as Lies.  It just hit at the right time in my life as a 13 year old and a person really in to music...  I actually bought the tape in late 87 because everyone was talking about it at school but I didn't know who they were.  I guess the band just came through Providence, RI and a few of my friends older brothers went to see the band at some club.  I listened to the tape a couple of times until the summer of '88.  The summer of '88 was the best...  SCOM was #1 or near #1 for most of the summer and we were listening to it a lot at the beach.  92 Pro FM in Providence would play the top 10 songs of the week like every hour.  Def Lep and Guns were always back to back.  Welcome to the Jungle finally got the recognition it deserved and then in the Fall Paradise City came out.  Then Lies hit on or about Dec 8th while I was in Daytona Beach, FL a trip I would probably never forget, complete with gunfire, fights, alcoholics, and drug addicts...  I bought the tape the day it came out in Daytona.  good times.  good times.

4/14/2012. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

« Reply #8 on: January 25, 2011, 01:54:38 PM »

It certainly changed my life, especially as a 17 year old who was the target of bullying in school....I'd play "Out Ta Get Me" on my Walkman, and I'd get a sudden burst of bravado, not afraid to stand up to those who brought me down.

I still get an adrenaline rush from that song, and so many others on the Appetite album. It will continue to be a record that has an effect on many generations after mine.

Thats why i love that Axl story on Eddie Trunk when he is talking about the Led Zeppelin song D'yer Mak'er. how he heard it, made fun of it, then by recess was passing out the lyrics.

thats how i was first time i heard SCOM. i hated it, was making fun of it and a day later I am buying the 45 vinyl and have been a fan for life since.

And 1992 on UYI and 1989 on Lies.

Anyway, no surprise Appetite win this "competition". Even i didn't remember the 80's that good, and sure not the seventies, this have to be correct!

I'm proud of this achievement, and this album did change my life.

Welcome To The Jungle is the song that basically got me through my teens, the album has been my saving grace. I'm certain it's the same for everyone else here too, the best F-U to bullshit people ever.  ok

I do kind of feel that discovering that record has directly influenced my taste in books, films, even my approach to life.

I'm not even aggressive or a drug-addled maniac, just the freedom and honesty of it really excited me and thats a trend through all my favourite things.

I got AFD and a walkman for christmas of '88. I had already heard Jungle, but remember walking outside our family Christmas party listening to WTTJ and It's so Easy, then rewinding and listening again. It's one album I have never grown tired of, no matter how I try.

My first gig was in 1991 and AFD and some great bootlegs were the reason to go but UYIs really made it for me as well. But I was only a young teenager so that's why. Had I been a few years older it would've been a different story. Quite obviously AFD grew soon after peace
