Talk about having faith in your team.  Or maybe the guy was just hammered beyond belief and didn't know any better.  Falcon, was that you?

The Man Who Bet The Cardinals At 999/1 When They Were Out Of The Race Is Looking Smart And Rich Right Now

Vegas loves long shots. When statistics and history scream against the possibility of a miracle, Vegas can always count on the dreamers and the fools to put down cash in the hope of a once-in-a-lifetime payout. It's free money for the house, 999 times out of 1,000.

Not 1,000 times out of 1,000 though. That's why there are dreamers and fools.

At 8:16 PDT on September 12th, the Cardinals had lost 6-5 in Pittsburgh, and the Braves were in the 12th inning of their game against Florida?a game they would lose, but hadn't yet at the moment a man walked up to a sports book teller at the MGM Grand. St. Louis was five games back of the wild card with 15 games yet to play, and at least one oddsmaker decided the Cardinals' chances of winning a World Series were a thousand to one against.

One unidentified St. Louisan put down $250 on the Cardinals making the World Series at 500/1, and another $250 on them winning the whole thing at 999/1. An unlikely late September run, an unlikelier Braves collapse, upsets of the hyped Phillies and Brewers, and he's $125,000 richer. If the Cards can win three games before they lose four, he'll pocket another $250,000. It wouldn't make him any less of a dreamer or a fool, but luckier and wealthier for it.

2012 options declined for Oswalt and Lidge. Kind of surprised by that.

Why? they have an absolute stud in Vance Worley and their bullpen did well without Lidge.

With no Ryan Howard, they gotta spend some money on some type of middle of the order bat.

based on their options they both would have been grossly overpaid. and with the payroll where it is and a mega-deal needed for Hamels and a number of other needs, they simply could not afford it. i think Amaro has stated the payroll will be about the same next year.

i'm sure the phillies will talk to them and get a sense of the market and one or both could end up re-signing.

That was insane and i missed it while at the Dream Theater show LOL! Got to see Berkman tie it in the 10th and hear the rangers finally blow it in the 11th. Rangers deserved to lose this one. Absolutely atrocious pitching.

Best. Postseason. Game. I've. Ever. Seen.

That was crazy fun to watch.

Tonight: One game decides the whole shootin' match.  Awesome.

It's games like that that make it worth all those nights I stayed up late watching games past midnight and then asking myself 'why the fuck did I stay up for that?  Last night's game, that's why.  So glad I saw it as it happened.

Obviously, a 10-9 score, pitching was not good, but those 9th and 10th inning comebacks IMO were more a case of excellent clutch hitting than bad pitching.  Feliz had gotten 2 outs, had Freese 1-2 and threw a perfectly-placed 98-mph fastball on the outside corner, but as good as the pitch was, Freese's swing was better.

Sorry Ranger fans (and sorry Falcon for the potential jinx), but Game 7 is a textbook Dead Man Walking game.

Rangers could be in big trouble tonight. Their bullpen is really shot. They threw a lot of pitches last night.
