I am the Soul Monster of HTGTH

to the mods, I know this is in the wrong section, I'd just like to get some awareness for it at least for a day or so.

Brisbane city is now under floods, there expecting it to peak at 22 metres in some areas around the brisbane area. some parts of the cbd are shut down, they are calling it an 'inland tsunami'. Basically an area the size of texas is under water around brisbane/tawoomba, 60 people missing, 10 already dead and thousands of houses under water (up to their roofs and even beyond).
The hospitals have had to basically close down except for the emergency procedures as nurses/doctors can't get back home or to work.

If anyone on htgth could donate anything, or at the very least, post messages of support and these website links that provides further information to donate, on their twitter or facebook, it would be very much appreciated.

Bumble retweeted earlier, so if everyone could retweet as well, that'd be much appreciated in these times of need.

hopefully we dont have any more loss of life, but unfortunately they are predicting a lot more deaths.

prayers be with the australians that are or will be affected by this,
( this is really bad)  Undecided

Yes I agree, one of our very own members is currently out there travelling, Derby Greg. I think he got out of the danger zone just in time, but there is still alot of disruption.

I can't believe some of the video I have been seeing on the news, horrible for the folks who are there. Cry

We're also having a hard time with pouring rain and floods here in Brazil, with more than 300 deaths. If I find out any trustable site that really helps with donations, I'll post it here.

Edit: here's a link to the story

Well, more than 500 deaths in Rio only already, but I didnt find any way to a international donation. The Red Cross is helping there, though, and one may want to donate to them and ask to redirect it to the Brazilian victims of the flood (dunno how it works).

I have been hearing about the Brazilian floods during the last 2 days, never knew how bad it was with the Aussie floods being reported. Really horrible for Brazil too, 500 deaths already, that's 500 lives gone, hard to comprehend.

Strange how all the these natural disasters/problems are happening almost exactly a year after Haiti. My opinion is certain countrys, including my own, don't help out near as much as they should. It's always until it happens to them/us, and it's just not right.  Undecided

I believe that's the Brazilian Red Cross. It's all in Portuguese though...

It is. Right now Im looking for other options - so far I've found this one, still not in English tho:

http://www.pontofrio.com.br/hotsite/sos-rio.aspx

Its a trustable webstore here in Brazil. It works like you're buying some product, but instead you'll make donations. Just a reminder: R$1 (Brazilian Money Real) equals to $1,68 (American Dollar).

If I find any other way, I'll post it here.

Well, even though the Red Cross is here helping, their international website doesn't have the option to foward the donation to Brazil:

http://donate.ifrc.org/?navid=02_02

You can try to direct the donation to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) - the Brazilian website says it's the National Department of Relief and Disaster.

Their contact info:

National Department of Relief and Disaster Departamento Nacional de Socorro y Desastres
Cruz Vermelha Brasileira
Brazilian Red Cross / Cruz Roja Brasileña
Tel. +55 (21) 2507-3392 / +55 (21) 2507-3577

=======

There's one way that MAY work:

You can donate directly to the district of Nova Friburgo (one of the most damaged places) through wiring money to their Bank account. The swift code is BRASBRRJCGR (it's called Banco do Brasil and it can be made with a Western Union account) and their account info is 001033520001200003.

Obviously, if you may check the info above, there's several Brazilian sites that can prove it:

Prefeitura de Nova Friburgo
Banco: Banco do Brasil
Agência: 0335-2
Conta: 120.000-3

Source: http://g1.globo.com/rio-de-janeiro/chuvas-no-rj/noticia/2011/01/saiba-como-ajudar-os-desabrigados-da-chuva-na-regiao-serrana-do-rio.html

But I strongly suggest to wait for information from the Brazilian Red Cross. I've already contacted them asking for a way to foreign people to donate, so let's see if they answer me.

Bruno, I think donations to Brazilian Red Cross or CNBB (catholic church congregation in Brazil) are a safer way to make sure they'll have the right destination.

Their accounts are on this trusted webpage:

http://globonews.globo.com/Jornalismo/GN/0,,MUL1641140-17665,00-SAIBA+COMO+FAZER+DOACOES+PARA+AS+VITIMAS+DAS+CHUVAS+NA+REGIAO+SERRANA+DO+RI.html

Brazilian Red Cross
Bank: Real ABN Anro Bank
Agencia: 0201
Account: 1793928-5.

CNBB
Bank: Caixa Econ?mica Federal
Ag?ncia: 1041
Operation: 003
Account: 1490-8

ou

Bank: Banco do Brasil
Ag?ncia: 3475-4
Account: 32.000-5

By the way, I have some gunner friends on the cities where the tragedy happened and, thank God, they're fine.

I know, I posted the district account info because it was the only one I found out the international info for wiring money (swift code, etc).

I think the international Red Cross is an even safer bet, but I rather wait for real info from them to post it here. Smiley

theres 16 deaths in Australia at the moment, and about 30 people still missing. Apparently there predicting they wont ever find all the bodies because they would be buried in the mud/sludge that has devistated the state, thousands of peoples homes have  been destroyed and/or damaged beyond repair...

Thanks for helping out, I really wanna send some $ for help in this region.  I will see what I can do

thanks for helping out gunsguy, and I agree, even if you only have $1 or $2.00 to spare, its nothing that you'd miss, but it would go along way to helping the brazillians and australians get back on their feet.

a big thank you goes out to everyone whos donated so far or have helped spread the message. God can be cruel sometimes.

I don't believe there's a reason...

Thinking about auctioning myself off (musically) and donating all proceeds to flood relief in Australia, Brazil & Sri Lanka. Guitar lessons, guest solos on recordings, music for any TV shows or video games, etc....

I have music that might be worth something to someone, and if they're willing to make that barter, we can do something to help. The person donating gets music in exchange for their donation - I get to help with the only real resource I have, making music.

When I get back from LA and take care of the song release on Tuesday, I'll get on this.

And God bless those that are doing what they can, the donations of time, materials, funding - even if it's just positive wishes - you're all helping.
