G N' R - Gear run of Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal's rig

tcelectronic | December 15, 2010

In this video we meet guitar tech McBob who walks us through Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal's set up, filmed on the G N' R tour 2010. McBob gives us a quick glimpse at the rig and guitars he uses for the tour, which includes a Nova System from TC Electronic.

Cool to see how simple Ron's setup is considering the crazy noises he gets out of his guitar.

Where's the like button?

I had the exact same thought. Like is it fuckin' possible to do what he does with that set-up? Wild...

I find it great that McBob has done all the GNR tours between 1988 and 1993, goes and does all of the VR stuff and comes back to GNR for 2009/2010/2011  Smiley

Ron knows his way round the guitar like no one else, he is just amazing with guitar theory and so on. So it's no surprise to me, that he uses such little equipment, but still manages to achieve breathtaking sounds live.

Rons use of harmonics adds such a sparkle to his playing, he is truely gifted at performing these. As I just stated in the Robin thread, adding your own style to the equipment or effects. Can make you sound much more better sounding than the actual effects presented on stage.  ok

Ron's style is remarkable even playing in an shitty accoustic guitar (like he did in Rio). His sounds in GNR are pretty much the result of his superb technique rather than any effects (which isnt a bad thing, may I add). Smiley
