Today, after my son was born, I sent out a quick message to any GnR member I could get a hold of.

When my first son was born, I demanded that a GnR song was playing when he came home for the first time. My wife gave me that with WTTJ

So, for my second son, I figured what the hell, and sent out a msg to any GnR person I could think of. I  figured I would let them pick....but who would answer, right?

Ron, Axl, Frank, Del, Jarmo, DJ and even Mr. Adler got the same message.

I definitely wasn't expecting a msg back. Maybe from J or Del, but not an actual member of GnR....

But here's what I got.....

Ron Thal says:

Congrats! I'd go with November Rain. (It's November....) Or maybe 'Don't Cry', hopefully the baby will listen and not keep ya's awake all night.

That....right there..is class....

As I said to him in a follow up, it's pretty rare a father can look at his son down the road and say "I decided to play this song for you, from this band, cause their guitar player said it'd be a good fit"

Ron's already sent me a second congrats email.  But I figured it'd be cool to point out how nice he was to indulge a fan for all of 20 seconds, just cause it would mean a lot to them. Amazingly, most musicians wouldn't...

So thanks Ron...and Axl...I'm still waiting for your vote....lol Wink

I don't know of any musician of Ron's stature and ability that find the time in the day to reply to personal emails from fans.

A great guy.

Congratulations dude.  ok

Cangratulations on the birth.  Wink

My vote also goes with Don't Cry, the video kind of portrays a re-birth kind of feel. Most strongly represented with the first and last scenes, it's perfect.

I was disregarding the lyrics of the songs when making my choice...

I just thought NR is nicely long...

But now I realized maybe the ending is "too loud"....  hihi

Ron is a great human being. I emailed him 3 times (one for a quick interview and 2 short messages of congratulations). He replied the three of them almost instantly.

I'm straight, but trust me Ron is the kind of guy I would hug A LOT, definitely. He inspires me hugging him  Grin (*)

that's great. I'm gonna be a dad soon, and when the doctor gave us the good news he said the date was february 5th. first comment i had, turned to wife and said "if you can just hold it 'til feb 6th, it's Axl's birthday!".

Congratulations to you too Brandon.  Grin

Hopefully if the planets align, it may well just be on the 6th.

Congrats Razz.  I remember your avatar of your son biting a copy of Chinese Democracy when it came out.  I remember because I stole the idea and took a picture of my own 8 month old son at the time doing the same thing!  Now I also have a second son, he's 3 months old.  So awesome of Ron to write you back, and so quickly too.

Ron's cool and will reply. Was funny in 06 when the entire GNR fanbase was emailing/messaging him and he said to ease up sending them as it was effecting his guitar ability.  hihi

But, no he's a top bloke, met him twice.

And congrats  Cool

I have another 'Ron is the nicest guy on the planet' story, but I won't hijack this thread.

Will post in the memorobilia section in a couple of days with some pics. He sent me his CD, and autographed the fuck out of it.

Really made my day.
