I think the safest idea (in many ways) is Jarmo's.
The fan-only presale has been done before through this site.
There could be 2 different shows, one in NYC for the fans from the US and one in London for the European fans...
Between yourself and Jarmo, you have the best and most appropriate solution to what everyone is grasping for.
I'm not sure how feesable two pre-sales are, but I think two seperate venues, far apart, would give everyone here the best possible chance of an intimate fan gig.

Besides the whole "private fan" thing, what I think would be cool is if GN'R did a big tour and added really small venues to the big arenas...
I think the Stones did a similar thing 7 or 8 years ago... They also released a dvd for that tour.

count me in, wherever and however this may come about.
the pre-sales in 06 were really great, I was so panicked I wouldnt get tickets to hammersmith!
If they hadnt knocked down the lovely Astoria in London, that venue would have got my vote

This sound excellent. I would be in at $1000...maybe more depending on the type of event, access to band, etc
yeah for $1000 each we should be able to get more than just the show

There could be different packages, depending on what route is taken.
Gold Donator, Silver Donator, Bronze Donator, etc.

I disagree. This band doesnt charge for meet and greets, nor does it shove ?20 photo-filled programmes down your throat.
The $1000 was our figure, based on private show calculations from the Russian gig.
Don't think its worth it? Then don't pay it.
It's all speculation anyway, but you make it sound like the band are trying to rip us off

The concept in itself is pretty cool.
But maybe there are other ways to do it.
Just to clarify.
There's many things that has to be in place for a show to be booked.
First off, the band has to be on tour....
Then you need a venue etc.
That's a lot of work in itself.
The "easiest" way as far as I can tell to organize something like this is to take a "regular" show and turn it into a "fans only" show...
Let's say there's a show in a smaller more intimate venue. Then you have a pre-sale or provide some kind of logistics to make sure the fans get the tickets first.
Could be a fan club thing or something similar....
/jarmo
That would be incredible! A Dream come true- we would just need a medic on-site for when I pass out!
If it's not obvious hell yeah
I'm in
!- I mean I went to see them in Mexico, Canada & the UK so a fan-club show here in the states- like in NYC would be Insane- in fact I'd give my right arm for it!

That wasnt the arguement that was put forward.
Again, it was us schemers who plucked the $1000 out of thin air, not the band or anyone related to it.
We were speculating how much it would cost to organise the same experience as the Russian private show last week.

Thoughts:
- Paying for a live feed on the internet dilutes the value of the $1000 ticket price. Less people will pay $1000, to see the show in their underwear for $10.
- Without a tour in place, LA, NYC or Las Vegas is the obvious place to stage a 'one-off' type gig. The majority of the band members live in LA or at least are there on a regular basis.
- It sounds like what the fans are really asking for is: something different that is attainable. I think many board members would love to see the band play somewhere other than hockey arenas; something more intimate. Theatres, clubs, ballrooms, etc. Also, on the backside of that, it would appear that the fanbase is starved for some kind of high quality live footage that they can watch without having to type
www.youtu
....
- This band went through a 'fan package' debacle in Canada in early 2010. The package included a tour of backstage, and a bunch of swag, plus guaranteed 'best seats'. This fell through for undisclosed reasons, but one can venture that it was probably not rubber-stamped by the band. The band did try and remedy the situation, but ultimately refunded the customers. This is a band that has a love/hate relationship with the fans. Half of the band members love meeting the fans and the other half would prefer their privacy. Meet-and-Greets are not on the horizon, as far as I can tell.
- This band desperately needs some kind of fan club. Social media may rule today, but that doesn't mean listing shows on Facebook or Twitter is a viable way of communicating with all fans. The problem is that fan clubs are generally tacky and a rip-off. Also, Pre-sales on Ticketmaster generally don't give GREAT seats away. Usually, they are pre-assigned blocks that may/may not be better than the general sale. Look to Pearl Jam for how to 'fix' this problem. Ten Club is probably the best fan club in the world.
- Guns should look into pro-recorded live bootlegs as a passive form of income. In this day and age, you might sell more bootlegs than albums. Everyone wants to hear Paradise City with their city's name ringing out at the end. If Metallica can offer this, anyone can. (Quick aside: Slash offered live recordings of his solo shows available 20 mins after the show for $20.00 - Calgary, AB.) If the videos/songs are going to be on Youtube anyways, you might as well give the fans proper recordings instead of muffled crap.
- The whole 'private show' will most likely never happen, but an assessment of possibilities by management and at least a gauge of interest is important. I think we would all be happy with the band doing something retro like an 'MTV Unplugged' or BBC Session. To be honest, with Ron and Dj in the band now, there will most likely be greater fan interaction and less space between the band and its fans. It's amazing how something so little like watching a 20 second clip of backstage (
http://svtplay.se/v/2204730/psl/folj_med_till_axl_roses_eget_backstageomrade
) can make a fan so happy and yet it's never granted.
Great thread. VOTE CHARLIE FOR MAYOR OF GN'R PUBLICITY!

A smaller fans only show would be cool for everyone, the band included. They could interact with the fans and the fans can feel special knowing the band is playing for them. If it were figured out right this would be not only great for fans but great for hype of the band.

A "fans" only would be great! Then there would be no complaining about coming on late!
Maybe they could even play us a new song
