New Audio Interview with Tommy Stinson On 93.3 WMMR In Philly

Here's an audio interview with Tommy Stinson conducted by Preston & Steve on 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia on Aug. 11th.  He talks about playing in GNR, Haiti, his favorite GNR songs and playing again in Philadelphia.

And on Axl arriving at the shows he says -- "You don't want him to go on before he's ready...trust me." Smiley

It's a good interview.

So, they're not playing Riad because of the lawsuit... Ridiculous lawsuit btw.

Great interview!

You don't need an iPod.

It's a regular mp3 file.

nice interview, tommy is a funny guy - this is the first time I had a chance to listen to him

the best part is when one of the hosts tells a story about sb who stole Axl's shoes in Philly though...

Thanks, great interview.

It really sucks for me that they can't play my favorite song because of this ridiculous lawsuit about the "wind sound" part. Hope they can eventually play it.. Sad

They updated the podcast page today and the Aug. 11th show doesn't appear anymore. Angry

I'm working on getting another link -- if I get it, I'll post it.

Kinda ironic ... Tommy spoke about these issues just a few weeks ago.

Here's an audio interview with Tommy Stinson conducted by Preston & Steve on 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia on Aug. 11th.

WMMR: Tommy, I gotta ask though. Over the years, and how many different shows you've played, there'd been times when I'm sure you've sensed an angry crowd and it's like "Oh my God, we gotta go out there and let it all hang out...."

Tommy: Two words: Piss bottles. When those babies start flying, I grab the mic and tell them to stop or I'm leaving. It's worked a couple of times. Luckily, I haven't gotten one in the head yet.

WMMR: Well listen, being in a band that Axl Rose fronts, I can imagine it's gotta be, like a wild card. You don't know what you're gonna get at any given time.

Tommy: That's the rock n' roll element of it though. I appreciate that from, obviously, from my days of The Replacements and things like that. I mean that band was no different really in a lot of ways. You just didn't know what we were gonna do, we didn't know what we were gonna do and we kinda went with it. Although it's a lot more fun when you're in your twenties... You know.

WMMR: I would imagine at some point you just have to accept his kind of... erradic nature...
You're at the gig, you're in gig mode, you're ready to play. And he's not there, and you're waiting and you're waiting and you're waiting. And you can either get really tense and upset and angry about it, or you can just sit back and go "well, the show doesn't go on until he gets here and I'll just wait and do it when that happens".

Tommy: Yeah the thing with that is though, you don't want him to go on until he's ready. Trust me. When he's ready to go on, chances are pretty good that it's gonna be a pretty good show. But if you made him go on before that, all bets are off. You don't wanna push that.

I agree... I dont understand why this would hold up a live performance? Surely they could not play that part...

I dont agree its "just a wind part" in a sound sense, It was obviously on that guy's song... Weather its his creation or just a general synth sound, thats for the courts to decide...

I do agree its "just a wind part" in a relevance to the song sense

f you heard the guy's songs you'd know that the snipets are clearly his creation...
they are exactly the same.. from two different discs of the guy, and they are now simply "synths chords"
too much coincidence

i just asume and engineer "sample" them and told the band everything was ok
(the band said this)

I would think they rather play it with that intro because it builds up to the proper melody just great, but they did get rid of it in the Rock Band version.

It really sucks because Im waiting since 2002 to listen at least in a bootleg form this song being played live again. And I bet the current band would kick ass on it.
