Interview with Patti Hood

Patti Hood is a renowned harpist and vocalist. She has worked with artists such Jon Anderson (Yes), Marty Willson-Piper, LUSK (Pitman's band), Paul D'Amour, and she also worked in the recording of the song This I Love from the last Guns N' Roses album, Chinese democracy. GN'R Hispana contacted her to have an interview, to which she gladly agreed.

How did you start in the music world? And what are you working on these days?

I started playing in bands in the 80's. These days mostly playing with local friends in Joshua Tree, California. I've also recently recorded a couple of things with The Church and worked with Harold Budd recently. Also, Chris Pitman from GnR is producing a couple of solo CD's for me.

When did GN'R contact with you?

My friend Chris contacted me in 2004.

Please define how you felt when one of the wildest hard rock bands of all time let you know that they were interested in you for their next album.

I was very excited and honored to be a part of this work, and especially this gorgeous piece.

How was the recording process like?

First Chris recorded me for a "demo" of what we could do with the piece, then we went into the studio and Caram Costanzo did the rest.

Did you communicate with Axl and/or the band?

I went through Chris as I've known him and played with him for a very long time.

Have you listened to Chinese Democracy?

Yes, of course!

What do you think of the final version of This I love?

It's a gorgeous song, not matter what.

Is it much different than the song that you listened for the first time back then?

Not too much. Chris had given me just the instrumental track to figure out what I was going to play, with no vocals.

Did you work in other GN'R future songs?

I have not.

Would you like to play This I love live in concert with the band?

It would probably be the biggest rush of my lifetime.

Finally, how would you describe your experience of working with Guns N' Roses?

An extreme honor.

Would you do it again?

Absolutely!

I would love to be able to see her perform with them. Even if it was only a one time thing.

Saw her at the IW Festival 2009, she was a guest of John Giddens, she  had a photograph exhibition at Dimbola Lodge (photo freaks know about this place) the week before, stunningly beautiful. love
