This question pops up all the time, and no one has yet resolved it. Someone gave a youtube link a few years ago, and although it wasn't the same peice of music, it was really similar and followed the same progression.

I know since the Asia leg of the tour, GN'R have tried a few other intros like Leonard Cohens ' Everybody Knows '. But I feel that the intro first used at the Hammerstein Ballroom warmup show up until now, is the best intro ever for GN'R.

It's perfect and I too would like to know, where it originated, either if it was created by the band or whether it is a piece of composed music.  Cheesy

There's not one specific intro....

As it's been pointed out, several intros have been used on this tour.

I remember hearing Star Wars at a Canadian show.

I believe he's thinking about the one they used throughout the 2006/07 tour.

Wasn't it said that Pitman wrote that piece of music? I could be wrong though.

Yes, that was the one used during the 2006/2007 tour, but they have used others as well as this one, since Taiwan up until now.

I think it's ironic that the one show I went to in Canada, which was Toronto, they used the one I had got used to 13 times in 2006, the jaws like intro that was played throughout 2006/2007 (like in the clip). When they could have used any like Perry Mason or Everybody knows etc.

I remember a reference to Pitman making it, but I also remember another story about Robin picking it from a movie. So I'm not sure, but it would be nice to know so we could hear it cleanly.

the "help me" intro from 2001 is from the movie "the Exorcist 3". I love that intro, they should use it again:

"I believe in death. I believe in disease. I believe in injustice and inhumanity, and torture, and anger, and hate. I believe in murder. I believe in pain. I believe in cruelty and infidelity. I believe in slime and stink, and every crawling, putrid thing, every possible ugliness and corruption....you son of a bitch!!!

Yes, I believe GN'R used that one also during the shows before North America in 2002, like Europe. Then they started using an orchestral theme, much like the 06 one, during the second half of 02. (NA tour)

But it was alot more of a horror theme, where as my favourite, the 2006 intro is more like a Jaws like theme.  Cheesy

Oh yes!!! This one was the best, and it fit in perfectly with the Chinese Democracy album, especially when they used to play Oh My God. I used to have a cd with some gnr tracks, and i would always put the 2001 intro on the 1st track and Oh My God on the 2nd track!  hihi

There was also an intro at some Canadian shows that I hadn't heard before (in Asia or in 2006/7)....

I believe they used to same intro as Chile in Hamilton. For London and Toronto they used the same as the 06/07 intro..

When GN'R played Budapest in 06, the Intro music (the Jaws like them), played for about 4 mins. People who are interested in that piece of music should listen to the bootleg, as it's extended and sounds really good.

As far as where it comes from, I would guess it's a classical piece of music, either from an old score, or maybe a film. I remember somebody saying a couple of years ago that Robin chose it from a film.

It would be nice to know where the 2006/07 intro comes from, I'm sure it's out there somewhere.  Smiley
