Slane 2010 is a festival right? My geography is a bit pants but is it northern or southern ireland? The articles about guns playing only leeds - reading festivals would make this false wouldnt it. I got the date for the 28th from a quick google search earlier. Thats the date listed for the event applantly
Its not a festival, its a one day event with a headliner and 3 or 4 support acts!

They might just play Ireland somewhere else before or after UK, not necessarily the 28th, would be a busy few days. In '92 Ireland was their first stop on the European leg of the tour. In '02 they played Leeds then played Belgium next day then back to England to play London two days later. In '06 they played London then over to Dublin two days after and back to UK to play Donigton.

It did in '92. Slane is a village in Ireland and the venue is on Slane Castle's grounds. It's not a festival called Slane...its a place. Its a unique venue as its in a large naturally bowl shaped field and has good acoustics as a result.

But surely if they are searching for the headline act then it wouldnt be a specific guns n roses gig which is the point im trying to get across. On various sites its listed is slane2010 which gives the impression of a general music event rather than a specific concert

Im also well aware that slane is a place and not just a name for a music event. Just like leeds, reading and donington

Its a music event that happens once a year on the grounds of Slane Castle. usually it is a big selling rock band that headlines. To try an answer your question: No, its not a specific Guns n Roses gig but they could be asked to perform at it. If they decline, another band would be asked to headline. So either way, the event will take place. whether Guns headline depends on whether they are asked and if they accept. But its a big show. Last year The Prodigy and Oasis played. I havent read all the thread so im not sure why its significant whether its a specific GNR show or not? Cos the dates clashing with Reading/Leeds? I hope this helped! I think kings of Leon will be there anyways. (Hopefully not headlining).

ill try to elaborate a bit more:
You could call it a one day festival but there is only one stage and 3 - 4 bands playing so there is a lot of pressure on the headliner to sell. Its not like other festivals were a large amount of people are there for other acts.
And its one of the most predigious shows to be asked to headline

Which is the same thing. Rather than the artist booking the venue the venue books the artist. So thats what i meant by not being a specific guns gig. But yeah cos it crashes with leeds n reading its a pretty pointless discussion really

It would be great to see GNR back at Slane. I was there in 1992, what a day GNR have a big following in Ireland. Always have. But I'am not sure if GNR would fill the place on their own today, but maybe with strong support Bands. They get crowds of 60-80 thousand at shows there these days.

just found this April Fools article regarding Guns appearance at Slane 2010 http://ticketsthere.com/2010/04/01/guns-n%E2%80%99-roses-for-slane-2010/Sorry folks, all an April Fools Day joke BUT, keep an eye on TT because we?re 99% sure an Irish date is coming?but it won?t be Slane Unconfirmed reports have tipped hard rock legends Guns N Roses to take the headlining spot at this year?s Slane Festival. The band who are already being confirmed to play the Reading and Leed?s Festivals in August last played the venue on their Use Your Illusion World Tour in 1992. PS...did you notice they called it a festival

Well, to put this rumour to rest: http://www.rte.ie/arts/2010/0403/slane.htmlThere will be no show at Slane this year, period. Slane 2011 will happen however. Looks like they couldn't get logistics sorted out for any bands, let alone GN'R. Likely that whole "the 28th is the only date possible" buggered things up. Hopefully Guns can do some solo shows however. I'm really hoping for a massive European tour. Hell I want them touring for the rest of the year! It's just way more fun when they're active If I wasn't flat broke I'd be on a plane to Reading this summer

You can get to those gigs for free if you apply to work at the gigs doing wristbanding, I did it last year at Electric Picnic, you work a couple of hours in the morning putting wristbands on people coming in. Then you get to enjoy the rest of the festival for free. Email wristband@festivalrepublic.com to enquire about working at whichever gig Reading or Leeds and they'll put you down on the list. Festival Republic do a few of those festivals www.festivalrepublic.com
