I know the topics moved on a bit now but I just wanted to add that having been there and had time to consider crowd reactions ect. I think the negativity early on at Reading was actually fans who wanted to see them and were worried they wouldn't get to rather than people who didn't like GNR.
Admittedly this is based off people 3 rows from the front (on the right), I have no idea what the atmosphere was like up the back, but around 10:15 I was begining to get a little worried because if anyone was going to kick off it was the very drunk, loud group right next to me who were hurling abuse at the empty stage. By halfway through Chinese Democracy they were loving it and they were also among the loudest voices demanding that the band be allowed to finish their set.
There was one solitary idiot who tried to bottle DJ (and failed miserably, couldn't aim for shit and only had 2 bottles) and one girl who just wanted to go on and on about Slash but everyone else seemed to be behind the band 100%.
