Slash and Angry to launch MTV Classic

05:01 AEST Wed Apr 14 2010

The Rose Tattoo frontman and the US guitarist will come together at the Pay TV event in Melbourne on April 28 to perform Nice Boys, a song Guns N' Roses covered in 1988.

Slash has been a fan of the band since the early 1980s, and Rose Tattoo supported Guns N' Roses on the Australian leg of their Use Your Illusion tour.

"Angry and I go way back to when GNR toured with Rose Tattoo in Australia back in 1992 - and had some great times - so when MTV asked me who I wanted to perform with at the launch of MTV Classic, I immediately thought of Angry," Slash said.

Anderson said he was looking forward to rocking out with the music icon.

"It's a beautiful thing when you get an opportunity to jam with an artist who has made such a global impact on rock music in your home town," he said.

The new pay TV channel, MTV Classic, will go live on Saturday May 1 at 5pm.

Rock animals to celebrate on stage

00:02 AEST Fri Apr 23 2010

By Alyssa Braithwaite

Their wildest days might be behind them but Angry Anderson says fans will see a couple of rock'n'roll animals when he performs with Slash next week.

The Rose Tattoo frontman and the Guns N' Roses guitarist will perform the Aussie band's classic song Nice Boys at the launch of MTV Classic in Melbourne on April 28.

Slash has been a fan of the band since the early 1980s, and Rose Tattoo supported Guns N' Roses on the Australian leg of their Use Your Illusion tour.

The big-haired guitarist specially requested Anderson perform with him at the launch of the music channel.

"I'm excited. I would have expected us to catch up anyway, but I was warmed and thrilled that he said, 'nah nah I want him to come and sing a song with the band'. That was really nice," Anderson told AAP.

"It will be really, really nice to tip our hats to the past and the connection that brought us together all those years ago. And it was a lot of years ago."

The two rockers first met in the early 1980s when Rose Tattoo was on tour in the US with Aerosmith.

They formed a close friendship that has remained over the years.

When Anderson was on This Is Your Life, Slash sent a message saying if it wasn't for Rose Tattoo, Guns N' Roses wouldn't have come into being.

Anderson returned the compliment, saying Slash was the real deal.

"There's very few real rock'n'roll animals left, in the old romantic sense or style, and Slash epitomises rock'n'roll," Anderson said.

"He's got the great dark, brooding, 'leave me alone' (attitude), like Pete - Pete Wells who formed Rose Tattoo.

"Slash is a real rock'n'roll animal, he's one of the few left that can claim that distinction."

Slash will also take to the stage with Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale at the MTV Classic party, to perform the track By The Sword, which they recorded together for Slash's debut solo album.

"He has a great love for, and a great admiration for Australian music," Anderson said.

Exclusive: Slash Aint No Rock N' Roll Poser

April, 2010

Angry Anderson, the hardest and one of the most respected men in rock, says Slash's upcoming show will be killer because he's the real deal.

In an exclusive interview with Triple M's Byron Cooke the heavily tattoed singer of Rose Tattoo gave the ringing endorsement ahead of Slash's gig next week to launch the new music channel, MTV Classic.

"One thing I love about Slasher is he's the real rock n' roll animal," said Angry. "It's a great choice on MTV's part that they picked a real rock n' roll player as opposed to a lot of the posers and 'would-bes-if-they-could-bes-and-they-never-will-bes-coz-they-can't'!"

In the interview Angry also recalled the first time he met GN'R and the possiblity of Slash and Axl getting the original Gunners back together.

Slash and friends will be playing at the Palace Theatre in Melbourne on April 28 and will be broadcast on the all-new MTV Classic channel on Foxtel and Austar at 5PM on May 1.

Review:

Slash Reclaims His Guns N Roses Past At MTV Show
by Paul Cashmere - April 29 2010

Slash was out to reclaim his Guns N Roses past with a full-on show starting with the Gunners `Night Train` and featuring amazing versions of `Civil War` and `Sweet Child O Mine` last might in Melbourne.

The legendary guitarist is in Australia for the launch of MTV?s new channel MTV Classic.

While Axl Rose has done a great job bringing in a Slash impersonator in his current Guns N Roses line-up, Slash fought back by recruiting former Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy who could belt out a Gunners tune will all the full force of an Axl vocal.

What you don?t hear in a Gunners show anymore is that Slash signature guitar sound. When those first few notes of ?Sweet Child O? Mine? started, this was Guns n Roses.

Slash brought out Angry Anderson to sing ?Nice Boys?, the Rose Tattoo cover Guns n Roses had on their first record.

Wolfmother?s Andrew Stockdale was a much publicised guest brought on to perform ?By The Sword?, the song they did together on the new Slash record but the highlight was the next song, Slash?s band with Andrew on vocals performing Wolfmother?s ?Woman?.

MTV Classic will do on air across Australia this weekend.

Slash's setlist for April 28, 2010 at The Palace, Melbourne:

Setlist

Nightrain (from Guns n Roses, Appetite For Destruction, 1987)
Back From Cali (from Slash, 2010)
Beggars & Hangers-on (from Slash?s Snakepit, 1995)
Nice Boy (with Angry Anderson) (from G?n?R Lies, 1988)
Civil War (from Use Your Illusion, 1991)
Sucker Train Blues (from Velvet Revolver, Contraband, 2004)
Nothing To Say (from Slash, 2010)
Starlight (from Slash, 2010)
Slash guitar solo/Godfather theme
Sweet Child O Mine (from Guns n Roses, Appetite For Destruction, 1987)
By The Sword (with Andrew Stockdale) (from Slash, 2010)
Woman (with Andrew Stockdale)
Slither (from Velvet Revolver, Contraband, 2004)
Paradise City (from Guns n Roses, Appetite For Destruction, 1987)

Another review -- lol at the last part...

Slash's Classic MTV Show

29 April, 2010

Bloody hell. It's not every night that you get to see one of the greatest guitarists strut his stuff in a small theatre.

And that's just what Slash did, rocking 800 lucky fans at Melbourne's Palace Theatre for the launch of MTV's new music channel MTV Classic.

While Slash's new album pretty much starred every muso living in LA, his band tonight was made up of punks not known in these parts. Even singer Myles Kennedy, massive in the US with his band Alterbridge, isn't that big here. But that wasn't the point - his band just needed to deliver their parts with precision and passion and Slash did all the rest.

The two-hour long show was wall-to-wall Slash including three songs from Appetite For Destruction, and featured guest appearances from Angry Anderson and Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale.

They opened the set with a rip-roaring version of the classic "Nightrain", while Angry's killer version of Rose Tattoo's "Nice Boys Don't Play Rock N Roll" almost stole the show. Yep, it was that f***ing good.

Slash didn't talk much and hiding behind his top hat and sunglasses, he let his guitar do the talking. When he did step up to the mic all he said was, "the electricity in this room..." before trailing off.

"Civil War" pleased hardcore Gunners fans; Myles doing his level best to reach those Axl highs. But it was when Slash morphed his solo of the Godfather theme into the opening strains of "Sweet Child O' Mine" that fans got want they wanted.

Curly top Stockdale then took over the vocals for "By The Sword" and "Woman" dancing like an absolute loon before handing the mic back for Slash to close with "Paradise City", which got Slash's missus so worked up that she bizarrely crashed the stage running back and forth in excitement.

That Civil War performance was very good. Although I don't like Myles's songs on the new album, he's probably the only vocalist I know that can compete with Axl's range. I'm looking forward to hearing more GN'R era classics that couldn't be performed by Slash before.

I thought Myles sounded better on this Civil War than the Roxy version, and suspect he will continue to get better as they perform more and more. He will never be Axl, but as you said, he has the range and power vocally to at least do justice to these songs and that is not something Slash has had at his disposal for a long ass time now and it is good to see again.

I am looking forward to getting high quality versions of all of these songs once MTV plays the show on Tv.

No one outside of Australia can see it, and none of the Aussies seem to be able to figure out how to rip the video and put it on youtube so everyone can see it.
