when i say that DJ ashba is way better than Slash,im talking about RIGHT NOW,the present.Slash is no more Slash,and i think if he were in GNR trying to make an old GNR record,he would fail (THATS MY OPINION).BTW i respect and love the OLD SLASH,and remember him like the rock star he was.Now is just a hat with hair,its like a NIKE LOGO.But musically.........no more a rock star.

Which is why people everywhere obviously know DJ Ashba not....oh wait 

Ashba has more chops in a technical sense, but he ( judging from BC ) has no idea how to craft a memorable guitar part or melody. His stuff is bland and generic. If you take stabs at VR than you haven't heard BC. If Axl tried to make a "old" guns record he'd fail, if Zeppelin tried to make an old Zep record they'd fail, If Ozzy tried to recreate 70s sabbath he'd fail. Catch me drift, of course he can't make that anymore it's not who he is. I don't understand how people start drawing these divides with people IE I like old/new guns , i like old/new Slash. I really can't think of anything other than his ability to shred a bit in which is triumphs slash.

His clothing is generic, his guitar playing style is pretty much a tame zakk wylde, his tone is brash.

I like Zakk Wylde and i actually thought that would have been and excelent replacement to slash even writting songs,so you nailed my tastes.And i didnt like the whole libertad album,and only one song in contraband(shiter).I think are pretty boring,and the singer sung without interest, i dont know how to say it in english,in spanish is "ganas,desganado".

And about DJ ashba songwriting,at least in wikipedia says he is co-writer in all songs excp one in Saints of L.A .And i REALLY like the album.Good sound,a mix of old and new.

I'm not saying Wylde is bad but he just seems like a second-rate version of Zakk or Slash. Libertad was awful, but was also a Scott driven record. Every song of Contraband kicked hard ass to me. I'm talking about his actually guitar crafting skills, he's done nothing. You can't pin point a moment in his career and say now THATS DJ, he can't play a single note and you can know THATs DJ....

i want to say also that im listening again to the new Slash album,and ive got the feeling of listening a Japanise band.......i mean that when japanise try to copy european/american great bands,the copy them very very well......but its just that..a copy.

DJ covers a bunch of GNR songs at every show!
He's just playing what Slash, Robin etc wrote.   

For better or worse, Slash has always played his own music.

How is Slash writing original material and contacting singers "like covering bands" and DJ playing Guns tunes day in and out he had nothing to do with NOT? You have a very wrapped mentality.

So you are sitting here telling me that you get a feeling Slash is trying to copy a bands style and sound and DJ is doing what ? Wearing a Top Hat and playing Sweet Child O' Mine? Seriously you're logic is very flawed....

EDIT: As I said earlier I understand that people can prefer DJ to Slash but some of the reasons that are backed up with that argument are beyond me. Honestly, no matter what Axl does with Guns I will always want Axl and Slash together. I won't vocalize it like some reunion freak but I think that together they make a sound that can not be replaced. I give everyone who has come into guns a fair chance, some I liked some I didn't but with DJ...it's not even a question.

After 17 years, people started to understand that Axl and Slash can have different projects, and we can enjoy both of them.  

That's right.

Many years past. People got over and is resigned. Although, it doesn't mean most of people want old Guns n' Roses back.

Its covering,he has made a song sounding like ozzy,sounding like motorhead,but because ozzy are lemming are singing.Theres a few songs where you can hear slash style.And i forgot to say,that the album sound in a few songs  COMERCIAL.

And about Slash trademark:YES i think when he plays with paulina rubio,marta sanchez,and the black guys of mtv,and he is with his hat and his guitar playing a solo (and sometimes a gnr solo ) is because of his  trademark.And he had used it during all this years.


And i think Ashba has fit the place of Slash,because he played the gnr songs,with his presence and his style and slash right now is not longer a the slash we love.Thats my point of view.

I still think it would be Slash though.   Its not possible to get any worse at playing the guitar.   
If you seen the show that Slash did recently for LAYN, he kicked ass playing Paradise City, Out to get me etc.  He's still awesome at playing SCOM and Nightrain and he's been playing Its So Easy and Brownstone for years now too.

I know Snakepit, VR and the latest solo album are not as good as his previous work in Guns, but its kind of difficult to top being in one of the biggest rock bands of all time.

Im comfortable with the fact that Axl or Slash will never do better than AFD or UYI's.  Just like Metallica will never release a better album than Master Of Puppets.

i agree, Slash will never be as good minus Axl.  At that show, he didnt rehearse and he was playing the solo in a different position on the guitar so it sounded a lot different.  He probably hadnt played it in some time either.

but i also think that Axl is worse without Slash.

its funny, i think Slash's work after GNR really misses Axls vision, lyrics and awesome vocals.
But i think CD missed some of Slash's cool riffs and solo's and overall RNR vibe.  Im not the biggest fan of CD guitar solos.

Of course i would jump and cry if theres a reunion tour ?who would not? but i really think the new line up could conquest the world AGAIN. with 2 more albums,and a PROPER MARKETING.Also a music video and interviews.For me is sad when i hear people saying? ah GNR? are they still playing?.On other time when a GNR album was for sale,there were a fucking collapse.Right now was a "light earthquake".The album is really good,the tour is really good......but the promotion is a fuckin SHIT.

Agreed     but i just don't see Axl releasing 2 albums anytime soon.  or appearing in public to promote them. 
I think CD would have done much better in 2002.  not sure whether it was ready or not though.
Especially after the first show in 7 years and the hype from the VMAs

I like slash but i think he is overrated as a guitarist. The new lineup has great guitarists and they also had buckethead who is so underrated.
