Also congrats to Slash on the release of his solo album.
I know how hard he has worked on it. At least a year or more.
He has been wanting to do this as long as I have known him.
So Bravo!!!!

Matt Sorum

Makes you wonder if he had that riff around for a long time, maybe he wanted use it in VR, and perhaps even GN'R days...

The riff has been around a while. He plays it while trying out a Gibson guitar. Video on Youtube.

Lyrics:

With the horses that you ride,
And the feelings left inside,
Comes a time you need to leave all that behind,
Well they claim they'd like to know,
And they'll want to let you go,
And the people gather around for the last show,

Well there is a reward,
To live and die by the sword,
Well they tried to complicate you,
But you left it all behind,
All the worldly possessions,
Are left for recollections,
And finally it's all gone!

They're releasing all the hounds,
What is lost can still be found,
When you heard that they'll defeat you on the ground,
Well there's some who choose to run,
Following the setting sun,
And now it seems the journey has begun,

Well there is a reward,
To live and die by the sword,
Well they tried to complicate you,
But you left it all behind,
All the worldly possessions,
Are left for recollections,
And finally it's all gone!

With the horses that you ride,
And the feelings left inside,
Comes a time you need to leave all that behind,

Well there is a reward,
To live and die by the sword,
Well they tried to complicate you,
But you left it all behind,
All the worldly possessions,
Are left for recollections,
And finally it's all gone!

This song has everything to become in a big Hit. Despite of it has a "classic" sound - not in fashion these days -, the tune in general is very catchy and it's sounds fresh at the same time. If Slash would had got Robert Plant for this song, it'd be a "classic" already . This singer had an amazing work though.

I like this song - but I don't think it will be a hit - not in the U.S. at least.

I think people on these forums really overestimate the popularity of GN'R, Slash, and related artists, groups.

Well said.  We do seem to raise expectations for GNR, Slash, etc. here in the US.  The music industry is so ridiculous in the US.  Just look at the top songs, albums.  You can clearly see there isn't much room for GNR, Slash, etc.  He has a chance with the Fergie track, maybe Kid Rock, but I'd be surprised if this song was a hit.  And I like the song, I just have no faith in the "casual" music fan in the US being able to notice a good song.  Of course, it could do well on the modern rock chart, or whatever chart that is.

When I said this song will become a "big hit" , I am not talking about it's gonna sell millions of copies or hit number one in charts, but I'm sure will be quite requested on radio broadcasts, that's it.

Just awesome. The riff is a killer and I really dig the voice of Andrew.

It's a good song, but I wouldn't have guessed it to be a single. Personally, I would've picked a different sounding song for a first single. Had he gotten Cornell to do a few late night talk shows with him and a video for their song I think people would've been all over it, just because of the collaboration between the two.

Anyhow, solid song. Good to hear some signature Slash riffage again.  beer

It reminds me of bad Led Zeppelin karaoke at the campus pub on a Friday evening.

A lot of guitarists file away riffs so that they can use them in the right song. He even had the Fall To Pieces riff (although it shows up in a lot of GN'R songs) since the early nineties.

I like it....sounds very Zeppelin'ish.  Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Oh yeah man I know that from personal experience, I've had riffs for years before they manifest themselves into songs. I guess it's weird thinking about Slash in a sense he's a normal dude hahaha. Yeah the Vocals grew on me, it's pretty much what I expected. Rock and of the Rollin'!  beer
