I'm bored thus posting this. It does reflect a lot of what my "casual fan" friends say - they're not sure if they like the CD, or they like parts of it. It's probably one of the most mixed-reaction albums I've ever come across. It really does grow on you.

WHAT?S IN YOUR MUSIC PLAYER?
2) Guns N? Roses, Chinese Democracy. ?I?m still trying to decide if I like it. It?s a mixed bag.?
as reportedly axl said it was a very complex record people would say it doesn't sound like Axl Rose or Guns n' Roses but they'd like at least a few songs on there.
Even though i loved the album straightaway, I love it more now with my favs on it keep changing. really a weirdo of an album.

i think if you have had nothing to do with GNR since there hayday, then it would be difficult or hard to adapt to this album

I have the exact same experience with the album.
I have this feeling that the album will stand the test of time really well, and will experience more and more appreciation as years go by.

Over the past few months, "Chinese Democracy" has easily become one of my favourite albums of all time. There's just so much
honesty
on there... I'm not sure that makes any sense, but I couldn't think of a better way to word it... and I've consumed a few Strongbows tonight

This is really only related to San Diego and Chinese Democracy but there is a radio station here in San Diego 94.9 that tracks through records Monday through Friday commercial free from 8-9pm. The radio station is indy/alternative but during this hour they seem to mix it up alot and track through a variety of albums from classic rock to indy to metal. I unfortunately missed the segment but according to the program director on Friday, November 21st, 2008, 94.9 tracked through Chinese Democracy for an hour. I am so bummed that I missed this but thought it was really cool that an Indy/Alternative station tracked through Chinese for an hour. If your curious of the e-mail exchange I have put my original message in blue and the radio station's response in green.
Hi Garrett,
I've just recently been experiencing 8:00 albums and think it is brilliant as it gives listeners a chance to hear a lot of different stuff from both popular and not so popular bands from today and times past. Hearing Grant Lee Phillips and Sunny Day Real Estate albums in entirety on the radio without interruption was pretty mind blowing. You are really backing up your slogan that it is "About the Music" leading me to become an insider and regular listener now. It seems that you are the driving force behind the albums that are chosen for this segment and you are not particular to any specific genre except maybe the generic genre of "Rock".....so would you pretty please listen to "Chinese Democracy" by Guns n' Roses in entirety. I think you will enjoy the album very much and may even consider it for the coveted 8:00 Album hour. If the album is over an hour does it not qualify anymore? If so, then I'm sorry for the long winded Axl plea. I really just feel this album deserves some recognition and to be heard and enjoyed by the masses. If you can't play the whole album maybe you can pick a song or two that you enjoy to throw into the rotation. My personal favorites are "Better", "There Was a Time (TWAT)", "This I love", "IRS", "Sorry", "Madagascar", and "Prostitute". You will definitely get a lot of reaction to the album and/or songs both positive and negative but I think that would be a good thing for a radio station as it seems 94.9 is not in the job of pleasing everyone but rather showcasing good music. If 'Chinese Democracy' can't make the cut for the 8:00 hour then surely 'Appetite for Destruction' stands the test of time as a classic album although language may be an issue. Either way I would be curious to know how you enjoyed the album if you have time for a short response.
Thanks for letting me share....
Here was his response:
Michael,
I'm happy to know that you discovered and are enjoying 8 O'clock Albums. I'm in agreement with you about the quality of the songs on Chinese Democracy, but it has already been tracked last year on the Friday November 21st. However, we have not played Appetite For Destruction and I certainly think it is worthy of consideration.
Thanks for listening and be well!

+1 to both of you.
And to think that my husband, a self-proclaimed GnR hater last year, who used to spy me on the GnR forums, today was listening to Chinese Democracy, by his own will, rocking to it... And he said "You Know what? I don't hate GnR anymore. Only a musically dumb person doesn't like this."
If Guns keeps this line-up and keeps putting records like CD I see my husband become a fan in a few years! LOL

What everybody has got to remember is Chinese Democracy has only been out a year and a few months. We as hardcore fans know it's a masterpiece, but it's inevitable that more and more casual music fans will soon discover this. When we live in an age where record companys are more worried about getting a product on the shelves rather than the quality of the music, it's no wonder that some casual fans are only discovering this gem now.
When all of the flavour of the month crap gets washed away, people will start to realise what they have missed. Not one other record am I more confident will stand the test of time, than that of Chinese Democracy.

I think much of the press surrounding the release of the disc focused a lot on "old vs. new", and gave the music itself far too little space. As time goes by, more releases are put out and the band members become more accepted by the general public. By touring the world now, presenting their
own
work as well, one would have to be pretty narrow minded to not enjoy the performance and musicality of this band (talking about the casual fans). Right now, I can't think of a more awesome band in the world, Axl has really put together a band who sparks with chemistry and ability.
Ten years from now, radio stations, magazines, music channels etc. will put together a list of "best albums of the 2000s", when the "old vs. new" argument is not an issue anymore, when it's all about the music.. I would imagine something like this going through their heads - "Whooa, why didn't we appreciate this
more
back then??"
