Billboard ranks them by show or a one night gross.  They won't tally the entire tour until the end of the year if it is one of the top grossing tours.

that individual show?
For GNR it looks like it's just that one show, but the other acts list multiple shows dating back to October 2009.  Not sure why they don't include all of the other GNR shows.  Confusing list.

I think what they did is use the information they had to come up with the totals. In Gun's case, they just had the one show (Jan. 25) so that's how much they grossed for that show. For other bands/people they had information from more shows. Eventually they might be able to get the tally for all the shows and have a total number. Or maybe they won't since it's not public information unless the show is being held in a government-owned facility (this is common for many cities and small venues so probably wouldn't include a GNR show) or a facility that recieves public funding - more common for newer buildings. (That info reflects my knowlege of US law only.) Hope this all made sense.

Not bad but I think they loose a ton of that to production costs, transpiration costs of all the gear and stage, the traveling sound guys, pyro guy, guitar techs, etc.  Sure they are making some good money but I doubt they are getting to pocket very much of that money themselves.

Actually in most cases the band gets a guaranteed amount of money for themselves and there is another portion of guaranteed money for transportation/setup as part of the contract.

It is the job of the promoters to generate enough revenue to cover those costs and turn a profit

I think you're right to an extent, but I remember reading an interview with U2's Boner and he was talking about a tour in the mid-1990s (I believe) in which the band actually lost some money. They had a pretty extragant set-up, etc. After that they got sponsors for the tour. I believe the interview was his reaction to some people complaining that the band "sold out" by getting sponsors. I figure the promoters probably guarantee a certain amount for the "extras" but the band in the end probably has to chip in. Anyhow, they're probably not broke. peace

In the past 10-15 years the concert game changed a lot.  Back in the day the shows had to sell a lot of tickets or the bands didn't get much if any money.  Nowadays big name bands almost invariably get a guaranteed pay day.  Touring, at least when it comes to major acts, has become the one part of the music industry where the money men get fucked in the ass by the artists and not the other way around

Not sure of the specifics of GNR's deal but they are probably getting between $250,000 and $600,000 plus expenses guaranteed every night depending on the size of the venue and the market the concert is in

Is gross just ticket sales, or ticket sales + concessions?  Also, does it include T-Shirt sales, which I think the band and management get 100% of?

I think the band would sell just as many tickets whether or not there was a big production with the pyro, lights, etc.  When you buy your tickets, you usually don't really know what the stage setup is, you're just looking forward to seeing the band play. Last time around, GnR's stage wasn't nearly as extravagant. I'm sure they could've done the same thing this time around and the cheaper cost would've meant more money for the band. And the way they are playing, the fans would go away happy. But the fact that Axl wants to put on a big (and more costly) production for the fans shows that he isn't concerned about making as much money as he possibly can --  he wants to put on a big rock show even if it cuts into his profits.
