im sure by now you have all heard of the RATM facebook campaign started by a fan to knock the X Factor off of the Xmas number top spot.
If not, basically a fan created a facebook page and asked people to download the song to make it number one.  Word spread and it all came together.

i was wondering if it would be possible for us to do something similar for Guns?  Granted we'd need to merge with other Guns web sites to stand a chance.
Now i have no great understanding of the charts and how downloads count if people are downloading in seperate countries.

but if we all picked a song and someone like Jarmo could help get this thing organised, it may be possible to get Guns to number one on the charts.

Think of the air play we could get for a song like This i love!

Happy Xmas folks!

GNR could do it if they became media whores. Not sure if that is the path they want to take.

Maybe Axl can go on Ellen? Yeah right!  hihi

This is a totally different example, but I reember Mariah Carey's fans tried to pick one day to buy one of her albums to get it back on the charts-it didn't work, and she does have a strong fanbase

I don't think that Axl cares about be number one, i think that he refer to thinks like this in the interviews. He wants the best for the fans not for the records company's.

The whole Rage against the machine movement was basically there to piss off simon cowell. For the last four years in a row the winner of the uk xfactor got the xmas number 1 in the uk.
This movements point was to show that if enough people who like real music and not the manufactured crap band together they can make a change in the charts. It just so happens that Rage were the band chosen.

Yes we can get GN'R to no.1 with a song like better or twat, theyd need a video first to help promote. But why would we want to do it? This idea has no real reason other the to HELP gn'r get to no.1 in the charts. Its more of a sympathy idea then anything else.

Itd be like "hey buy gn'rs new single so we can see them at number.1"

All this would prove is that there is enough gn'r fans who want them to be number one and want to make a big deal of it. This can be done for any band.

If guns are to get a nummber one it has to be done on their own. Thats the way any self respecting artist would want it.

It could easily be done.

A No. 1 in Jan/Feb would not take many sales. It would require some organisation, an official single release and some backing by the band.

How about, the week beginning Monday 24th May everyone buys 'Prostitute'. It gives time for the band to tour a little.

I'm not going to do anything personally bar supporting it, but the forums could unite, do somthing positive,  and use twitter/facebook/myspace to promote this to a wider audience. Some will need to create a central zone.

It's a bit of fun. I enjoyed being part of the RATM thing.

The "problem" is that the RATM campaign was  an "UK only" thing and at least on this site, we have a lot of people from outside the UK.

its definitly a good idea.  i know Axl might not care about being number 1 but i started the thread because it might help GNR get some time on the radio etc.  And its a positive thing

Very true. If it were to happen, people would have to target their own music charts.

I'd be down with something like this. Just curious, could we support "Better" instead of Prostitute?

Just seems like the best song on the album to try to draw a bunch of attention to.

I'd be up for this, not necessarily to get a number 1 for the band (which I don't think they're too bothered about anyway), but to gain more exposure for the album in general. I feel it's been criminally overlooked.

In fact, I posted a similiar thing on another GN'R forum... Here:

Quote
I think all that's holding this album back is the lack of any real promotion. The songs are there - they're just waiting to be heard. Someone here mentioned word of mouth and I think that realistically that's how CD is going to sell. At the moment, I can't see there being any big promotional campaigns officially, but what's stopping us - the fans - from putting the word out further?

I've seen some fantastic fanmade videos for "Better", etc, why don't we promote those videos (and, in turn the songs and the album) on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and wherever else we can?

As I fan, I'm not too bothered if the world and his mother buys CD... However, wouldn't it be brilliant if it sold really well and proved all the naysayers wrong? Just a thought...

Are we all still interested in doing this? The Canadian Tour starts in a couple days. It'd be cool if we could all agree on a song and day to spread the word about.

While I think the whole album is incredible, I still maintain that "Better" would be the best single track to draw attention to.
