Nice move, gives them 3 great SP. Maybe Oswalt will win a few games with some run support...

Nice move by the Phils on Oswalt..
Although..
Wouldn't it have been nice to have Cliff Lee
and
Doc Halladay for the entire year?

It's funny.
Given what they gave up to GET Oswalt...they'd have been better of sticking with Lee. The only difference here is that they get Oswalt for an additional year, I think (he's signed through NEXT year, with a team option for 2012??).
So, at the end of the day, they basically gave up what they got for Lee to get Oswalt...maybe a tiny bit more.

I like the Berkman trade. It gives us someone who can DH everyday or give Tex and corner outfielders a day off.

According to Buster Olney, the Yankees are close to acquiring Kerry Wood.
Damn! If they pull that off, that's a pretty good couple of days/deals for them. Both the Sox and Rays need bullpen help and Boston was hoping they could make a run at Wood AFTER today through the waiver wire trading deadline. And the Rays picked up Chad Qualls yesterday as insurance for the injured Balfour. Qualls is having an atrocious season.
Obviously, advantage Yankees. As if they needed any assistance.

Berkman, Wood and Kearns to the Yankees. Not a bad few days indeed.

Make that two in a row. Yankees have been scuffling a bit of late. Not that the sky is falling or anything, I'm sure they'll be fine. BUT, the Rays have seemed to have re-emerged as the team to beat in the AL East, for the time being.
As for the Red Sox, another day another injury. Kevin Youkilis is now on the DL and it's not known how long he'll be out. Could be a lengthy DL stay though. Mike Lowell was finally activated today as a result and hit a 2 run homer on the first pitch he saw after getting a standing ovation from the crowd. Lowell is an adequate replacement for Youkilis, BUT he's a notch below both defensively AND offensively. Plus, he probably won't be able to play every day as it is. Looks like Ellsbury may be back tomorrow, though I'll believe it when I see it. Unfortunately it just doesn't appear the Sox are ever going to get completely healthy this year. It's a shame. They've battled about as best they could and still have a top 5 record in the majors. Too bad the Rays and Yanks have the top 2 records.

Manny on the move?
Manny Ramirez, OF, Dodgers : Manny? No way. Manny Ramirez being traded in August? Can't be. Well, there is a chance that Manny can get traded. Ramirez is hitting .317 with eight homers and 39 RBI but is on the DL with a calf injury.
We saw the White Sox take a shot at him this past weekend. We also heard from Jon Heyman that the Yankees, Rays, and Angels were also interested. Who knows? Reading through the Internet, people say it's a "long shot," but I believe that anything is possible.

Yeah, they were dangling him at the trade deadline. I can't see the Yankees as a possibility after they got Berkman. The Rays could still use another hitter though. That would be a good fit. The Dodgers would have a surplus of OF'ers when Manny comes back after acquiring Scott Podsednik from the Royals, so they could certainly stand to part ways with one of them. And they'd love to rid themselves of Manny's contract, or any contract for that matter with the financial troubles the owner is going through.

That's a good point actually. They could very well block the Rays if they're behind them in the standings from now until the end of the month. But I don't think they should really concern themselves with winning the East. All you need to do is make the playoffs, and whichever team loses out between the Rays and Yanks still has the upper edge on the wild card.

Fucking Heyman thinks EVERYONE is either going to the Yankees or the Mets, he's by far my least favorite contributor to the MLB network...
Moving forward, there's no way no how the Yanks would let the cancer otherwise known as Manny invade their clubhouse.

That home run was hit into "Monument Park" so a security guard was able to retrieve it and give it to A-Rod.
They said that if a fan would have caught it, A-Rod was going to offer that fan an autographed baseball and other stuff. And if the fan still wouldn't give it up, A-Rod was gonna up the offer to include dinner with him and Cameron Diaz.

I was at the game, yesterday. My 3 kids first game at the stadium.....
It's funny, my wife and I were at the game the day AFTER 599. She predicted he'd hit it in the first inning, that day.
Fast forward to yesterday....and that's what he did. She was just off on WHICH game we would be attending.

I've now heard 2 separate reports that Youk is out for the season.
Is that true??!! If so, HUGE blow for the Sox.
