Has anyone else noticed if you go on youtube or even more suprising Blabbermouth the opinion of GnR has been really positive , usually its all Slash fans moaning or "this isnt Guns" or "Axl solo project". Why do you think this is, do you think thats why Axl left it a year before touring to let all the haters get over it or do you think its because footage of the asian tour looked so awesome. It looks like Axl could yet have the last laugh

Son, if things went 360 degrees, it would be the same situation.

180 is what you are looking for.

I don't think Axl cares that much and just does his thing regardless of what your, mine or anybody's opinion about him or his band is.

No, 360 wouldn't be good.  You're just going around in a circle!

Axl and the band are as solid as ever.   IMO people who are still harping on the past will become fewer and fewer as the years go by and more people see the present version of this incredible band.

I think all Slash fans are dead  hihi

No, seriously, I just think that things have calmded down because people do get over things. Even for the biggest 'haters' there comes a point where you have to stop whining and get on with things. Live goes on, you know and it does not makes sense anymore to keep naging about Slash.

Besides that, I also think that the most important reason for the possitive comments is also the fact that this new GnR really sounds amazing. Nobody can deny that anymore. The fact that Axl has finally released Chinese Democracy is another factor.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

I feel that too. CD confirmed that to Gn'R fans all over, none of the old school had anything to do with it. Its almost as if Axl has said "here it is, if you don't like it tough, right lets party with those who've stayed behind and live for the day.

As much as I liked the original line up at the time, I've grown up a bit since those days, I kinda hope those around me and those I admired in my youth have done the same. That's not a getting old thing BTW, but mearly that things change, and if you don't like it get off that ride and find another - rule to live by type thing.

Chinese Democracy out 2014!

« Reply #11 on: December 21, 2009, 08:24:21 AM »

I have couple of friends who some years ago were against the new lineup with a passion.. they were saying how GN'R should have done like M?tley and all that shit. They were the "real rockers" you know. But after CD was released I talked to them a little about all the stuff around it, they started to think otherwise. Now M?tley is to them just one of the bands riding with their 80's fame, and GN'R is one of those who are creating something real and new with a great amount of talent.

I think people are starting to realize it doesn't have to be all that black and white; you can like the old and the current guys at the same time and just love the music coming from this band. Saying "this new lineup is just amazing" doesn't mean "the old lineup sucks". The "new GN'R" is becoming more acceptable now..

Very well said. Everything doesn't have to be all that black and white indeed, as it is with everything. Everybody needs or needed to grow up a bit, after all we all like the same band, whether you are into the New GnR or not.

I personally am a big fan of the new GnR, but of course that does not mean old GnR sucks. That was the band I grew up with and after more than 20 years still love, but things do change and evolve. I am not 14 anymore but 33 now (I am a fan since I was 11). I have a 4 year old daughter who likes to scream 'Welcome to the Jungle, baby' and dances on 'Nightrain'. I have changed, GnR have changed, I think we all have changed. That is called evolution and it's a good thing.

From my perspective it's these things:

1. Chinese Democracy was finally released.

2. After reading Slash's book, which contained some piss poor reasons he wasn't in GNR any longer (Ron Wood had some good advice, Saul), and the way he presented himself, I'm not sure I'd even want to meet the dude. I can only imagine what he didn't admit to...

3. Axl taking the time to explain in song and chat, his side of what happened with Slash.

4. Time

It was the combination of these necessary ingredients that finally allowed me to move on and accept that the current band is rightfully called Guns n' Roses.

So thanks, Axl and Slash, for allowing an old, and I do mean old, fan to enter the 21st century GNR wise.  yes

And therein lies the crux of the matter. There are plenty of bands who've stuck together and are worse for it, it becomes a pathetic slow car crash that does less for their creditability than the music that they produce. I'm kind of glad the history of this group is what it is, no point looking back, only that events then made today what it is.

It's not that they're dead, it's that they've become Fergie fans and Chinese Democracy is a little too dark for them.

Or they've just realised that GN'R is not and never was only about Slash.

I think things going 360 degrees would mean a GnR reunion  rofl

I'm not going to speculate on who/what/why/how things got to where they did because it's Axl Rose and I couldn't care less what drives him to do the things he does as long as he's doing it. Whatever it is.

He wants to step out of the limelight for over a decade? Have at it. I can understand all too well how someone might want just to get away from everything for a while.
He wants to finally drop CD? FUCKIN' SWEET!
He doesn't wanna tour behind it right away? I don't care, I already saw him kick ass in '06 and who is anyone to demand anything of another person?
He wants to tour Asia and Canada now before America? So fucking what? When was the last time GnR toured the US compared to the last time they toured some of those countries?

Bottom line is this: I didn't give a flying fuck about these people back when they had nothing but shit to talk about my favorite musician.. and I'm still not going to give a flying fuck about them when they decide to jump on the bandwagon.
