Fresh earthquake hits east Japan's Izu Peninsula

www.chinaview.cn  2009-12-18 10:06:36

TOKYO, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- A fresh quake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 hit Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan Friday morning, following a similarly strong temblor that occurred late Thursday night.

The quake briefly suspended Shinkansen bullet train services, and a woman was taken to a hospital in the city of Ito in the east of the peninsula for treatment of injuries from a fall, according Kyodo News.

There were no immediate reports of damage from the 8:45 a.m. earthquake. No tsunami warning was issued.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake originated at a shallow depth below sea level off the east of the peninsula. It occurred nine hours after a similar temblor shook the same area, prompting the agency to warn that a series of quakes could follow.

Both earthquakes logged lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in some parts of the peninsula, including Ito.

The agency observed quakes with an intensity of 3 four times in the same area between Thursday midnight and 6 a.m. Friday along with a frequent number of smaller temblors, the Kyodo report said.

After the first three shows, I love the fact that ANYTHING can happen!

I'm so looking forward to this, and am certain it'll be a kick-ass show once again. Maybe the "Don't Cry"/"Estranged" teasers will materialize into monsterous full versions!  drool

Inside the dome city there's a great place called LaQua that opens till 9am its a huge spa and healing spaces I thought I'd go then I figured it will be too crowded with gnr fans. I mean fans don't have to worry about the last train home tomorrow.

The earthquake thing's a pretty cool coincidence. I wonder if Mr. Rose will say something about it during the show.

Thanks 2 those who went 2 Mustang Harry's on May 12th. That made my first concert experience something I'll never forget. Never did I feel like I fit in anywhere as much as I did amongst you strangers

I think so yes. Tokyo is 14 hours ahead of me (EST) so that makes it 17 hours ahead of you in PST
