I found a download claiming to be a real remaster of guns n roses, apparently it was a japanese pressing released in 2008?

Im listening to it and comparing. The sound quality is louder and clearer, however the bass guitar is alot bassier sounding then what i expect duffs bass tone to be.

Any info?

Yup, Japanese SHCD. Why there's never been a proper 'Special Edition' or 'Legacy' remaster of AFD is beyond me. The original CD pressing has that awful compressed sound that all late 80's CDs suffer from.

It's not like there's a shortage of bonus material that could be included, and it would certainly sell...

Hopefully at some point we get a remastered AFD.  I'd speculate that it won't happen at least until 2012 when it turns 25.  Certainly right now they are promoting CD and the new band and don't want to send mixed messages by putting AFD out there.

part of the reason why Appetite got so dominant and famous is for sounding like it is, no real point in a re-master. but sound qualitywise search for

the 1st japanese pressing (32XD-821/1987) or the MFSL release.

both are superior in sound to the standard releases!

I bought the 24karat gold CD as well of AFD.  Mobile Fidelity I think did it.  I couldn't hear much of a difference either.

Okay, very clear difference in the crispness of everthing.  You can really hear more highs as well, clarity in the symbols..

yeah listening wise the Japanese one is definately clearer. Lead guitar parts cut through nicer, n you can hear Izzys backing rythyms much better.  Drums are a bit sharper also!

Just listened to the whole album pretty much. Fuck, it sounds much better than my other CD that I play a lot so that I don't damage this one.  The guitars just SCREAM!  Ha, what a badass album.  Some much attitude in everyone's playing.
