Probably more drama on the msgboards than in real life...:and what's up with al the 'job'-comparations? Reminds me of the South Park episode where "they took our joobs!". This isn't a normal job people. This is a public business, where that "complaining-public"-line is easier to cross.

And what is the point of that hateful statements against Ashba Brownstone? Do we need a scapegoat all the time?

It?s about setting rules for everyone to obey. When the band is on tour that?s the only important thing. Nobody should have something more important to do.

So you obviously think Tommy agreed to do the shows when he knew that GN'R would be on tour?

GN'R is a big deal to a lot of people, so is the Replacements playing at Coachella.

Axl already has a reputation for being a dictator.  I don't see how exercising more "control", being more authoritarian and inflexible will help anything.  I think it will only create resentment from the rest of the band who have other projects they want to work on.  I think being accommodating and flexible only helps engender good will.

I'd agree in principle.  But I'd also have to point out that is not a quality Axl tends to have, engendering good will.

This whole thing isn't a great rebuttal to the argument put forth by many this is barely a real band.  We are told to make our peace with the fact they don't ever write, record or release anything.  No worries there, we are assured.  And are often then hit with how prolific they are at touring.  How this is "the most stable line-up".  How "they have played more shows than anyone!"  This is the big comeback retort.

Well, you can't have it both ways.  You are essentially now telling us to roll with the fact they don't write, record, or release anything.  Nothing out of the ordinary there, what are you talking about?  But now you add in that they can't even meet their touring commitments, which you have been trying to play as your trump card.  That is also all good in the hood, apparently.

Just don't dare you say this is barely a band in any real way.  You got some god damn nerve with that routine, mister.

A decent segment of people seem seriously bothered by DJ Ashba.  Everything from playing in Guns N'Roses, and up to an including the fact he draws breath on this planet.

I don't get it, personally.  If you tell me its because of his playing, what is that based on?  He's never been on a GNR album, and likely never will.  So is that based on random concert bootlegs of varying quality where he plays the same 25 songs?

And if its on a personal level, again, I find it over the top.  He seems to be an alright guy to me.  And he's hardly the first to plug some of his own stuff, so I don't see the crime on that front either.

I don't see it as unable to meet touring commitments.  I think it was an act of accommodation and openness that allowed Tommy the flexibility to miss five shows to go do his Replacements gigs.  To say "they can't even meet their touring commitments" is extremely myopic to me when you look at how many shows this lineup has played together since 2009.

Even if you believe that Axl doesn't engender good will in general, which is a debatable depending on perspective, my point was ultimately being more authoritarian and controlling won't help.  That behavior in and of itself won't engender any good will.

So, again, I disagree that Axl needs to exercise more control.

It just seems to be yet another area we are supposed to reduce our expectations and be ready to fight anyone that challenges it.  Where does it end?

Will there ever be any sort of breaking point where we might finally be able to say out loud that this isn't right?

Not really sure what you're talking about, exactly.  But, the right or wrong is for the band to decide, IMO.  They are the ones who have to put on the shows and perform.  If they feel it isn't a big deal for Tommy to miss 5 shows, I tend to agree.  I don't see it as a matter of right or wrong, so long as their concert commitments are met.  In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal.

Not really sure what you're talking about, exactly.

I'm talking about the fact this is not a legitimate band in the eyes of many.

Some take great offense to this suggestion.  And when you ask what sort of band does not create or release new music, the conversation is immediately changed to how much they tour and how stable they are.  In other words, we need to lower our expectations.  Then something like this comes along, and we have to lower them even further.

One day, god willing, something will happen and people will say "that's not right".  Its my white whale.

The problem is making too big a deal out of this situation.  Tommy is missing five shows.  That's it.  He'll be back playing the US shows afterwards.

Tommy missed the February 2007 Rock on Rodeo Drive show due to a family issue.  He was back afterwards.  I don't see it is a big deal, at all.

So, I don't think any "lowering of expectations is needed".  Perhaps a little perspective, though.

Ultimately, this does not matter.  I agree.

I just have a hard time seeing a similar parallel with other bands I like.  All the guys in Pearl JAm have side projects.  I don't see one of them abandoning a Pearl Jam tour to go play with the side project.

That may be true.  But, as of now, this lineup has played well over 200 shows and counting, and Tommy has only missed five.  It will take a little more than that for this to be like Soundgarden, where Matt Cameron won't be touring this year due to commitments with Pearl Jam.

My question to those who have been at the shows on this run:

Is there anything in BBF's body language to indicate he was unhappy?

I saw a couple of clips where he was joking around with Axl, like the one where Axl put the Brazilian flag on BBF's shoulders and he wore it while he was playing a solo.  Those didn't exactly scream abject misery and unhappiness and a lack of camaraderie.
Well, his is at work.

My question to those who have ever been to a strip club:

Did you think the stripper really liked you when she smiled at ya?
