And why do artists with a more relaxed camera/recording policy often have to specifically explain to the local security/venue that it's ok for the audiences to take pictures/record?

"No cameras, no recording" is the default policy for most venues.

Nothing GN'R specific.

The fact is venues charge a ton of cash to any artist who wants to record their shows.   So yes most of the time the issue is the venue or often just the security guard being a dick.   Also some venues may here about NIN's fan made film of "Lights in the sky tour" it was filmed in HD at 3 different venues and edited and colour corrected by professionals on the side.  Noone was paid however at the end of the day this video could be sold and the venues were not paid a dime for the recordings of the shows and I could see some venues being pissed or decide to not even allow fans to shoot videos at shows because of this film. 

As for Axl not being camera friendly that is crap IMO. (agreeing with you)the Bands who really hate cameras actually stop their set and threaten to leave (TOOL) Look at all the "You tube" videos GnR has left up all fan ones except those taken at the rehearsal.

This is a complex matter... If a band dont want people to bring digital cameras, video or photo.. that should be respected. I dont think any bands cares about cellphones and stuff like that anymore.. But to bring pro-cameras and videocams, i understand that. They are paying people to take good pictures of them, and its theyr job. But if the band says its ok, or dont mind it.. well... just bring all the stuff u want.. for me,  i would def not experience a good concert with a videocam in in my hand... The blitzing could be a problem for some artists. I know Maynard from Tool aint a big fan of it.. or, at least wasnt. But for the last couple of years i think things has changed a bit on this matter...

Wish they had  fan pics. I have not seen any:no:where people are posing with the band members backstage or at airports. Saw the one airport video, where people were getting pics with Axl. I should look at some asian sites, and see if I can find any personal pics. Anyone have any ideas where to look? Gonna go see what I can find.
