According to a guy on Beenafix who hanged out with Rick yesterday, the album will be very JJH sounding.. this album will feature JT Longoria, Rick Richards and Taz Bentley like always, but also Timo Kaltio.

It'll be on iTunes mid december..

There was mentioned that it's recorded a bit JJH style, as in seperate tracks over the past couple of months, with also having a JJH feel. This one was started in March at Nomad Studios in Dallas and finished at Flower Studios in California. Appearantly all that Izzy does these days is racing and every now and then the guys get a call and do some session. On the last couple of sessions, it was just Rick and JT in the studio as Taz and Izzy had already finished their parts. And early last month Timo Kaltio did some stuff with JT, there's also a studio pic:

On Timo Kaltio's MySpace:

I wrote 3 more songs with Izzy in November 2009, again with J.T. Had a great time...!!

@SlashHudson Heard Izzy's new album yet? It sounds great. Releases Dec 15. VR should write songs with him. Best Rhythm player EVER.

From Slash:

@_dolemite_ I just checked it out, its really cool, Izzy's great.

They did before they were officially VR.  Apparently they wrote some awesome songs, hopefully they might turn up one day!

In October 2002 Izzy jammed with Slash/Duff/Matt/Dave for several weeks, Izzy brought with him a guitar and a cassette with ideas/demos. They tracked the songs at a recording studio down the block from their 'Mates' rehearsel space (same period when Kelly Shaefer was coming over to LA for his audition). But Izzy bailed The Project once became clear that not everyone wanted him and Duff on vocals but another singer/frontman. So now it's April 2003, Izzy decided to use the ideas and record them with his own band resulting in the 'Like A Dog' album. There's a song on there called 'Bomb' (which is about the Iraq war, invasion started late March) which features an almost identical riff to 'Do It For The Kids', only better Cool

I asked Duff in April 2008 if this was a co?ncidence:

Quote
I got a question about some of the Contraband VR songs, does any of the songs there contain some Izzy ideas etc.?

Cause right after he jammed with The Project late 2002 he started recording Like A Dog in April 2003 and it has the song 'Bomb' which features an almost identical riff as 'Do It For The Kids'. Check out Bomb here:

Also in Slash's bio there's a pic with the four of you jamming saying you're working on a track called 'Snafu' which is also a Like A Dog track.

Some people are wondering if the ideas Izzy had when he was jamming with VR were used a few months later on his Dog album.

Duff (he also mentions going to record on 3 Concrete songs):

Quote
Yes....that is correct. I am actually gonna go out next week and play on a few Izzy tracks for his new record. Always fun hangin' with Iz! Astute observation and great question by the way!
Duff

So to make a short story long, Izzy's 'Like A Dog' album is basically the same ideas/song structures they worked on except they're arranged and recorded by his own band. I remember the bass player and engineer, JT, saying Izzy brought in the songs/ideas on a cassette and the band worked them out. So Izzy's band didn't know he also shopped those ideas at The Project.

The album sounds great.. to me it's the best electrical album since Like A Dog..

The three songs with Timo Kaltio on lead guitar give the songs a bit different vibe, but he's also very melodic and seems to click well with Izzy. Rick's good like always, a bit more sloppy but very energetic aswell.

Lyrics are less repetitive, but besides clever and funny also cool..

My favorites are Comfort Zone, Snow, I'm Breathing In and Driving Down  Cool
