I love the fat groove that Slash, Chaney, and Barker have working on this song... I like Barker's style... A lil loose like Adler, good feel...  Man, very impressed with this tune...

I can't say too much based on a live recording, but that solo was definitely cool. yes

Studio version should be good too. Cheesy

Sahara has been growing on me alot, this one is awesome too. I imagine the studio version will be a bit different and probably even more killer. Back when Slash played this riff as a showtune for Gibson on Sky TV last year I already mentioned he should use it in a song, glad he did Tongue

This song alone is better then any VR song imo.. just like Loaded blowed VR away. Kinda weird to me that Duff is better with Loaded and Slash seems better (out of the box, more rootsy) with his solo album, then the two combined on VR.

Really looking forward to Slash's album Cool

yeah...I agree, this song just has a good feel to it that the VR songs never had.  It's not plagued by that modern rock blandness.

gonna listen to it again  Grin

Jamming with Andrew Stockdale tonight at the Wiltern Theater after I jam with the Ghost Hounds who are opening up for Joe Perry at the HOB.

That was from Slash's Twitter tonight, maybe they are going to play their song again?

What I like is the line up we saw on stage.. Barker, Navarro, Chaney, Andrew, and Slash... That is a very strong lineup... But so was the one with Billy, Duff, Slash, Dave, and Travis... So much talent from the other night.  Its cool that Slash and Andrew are hanging out.

a full night of jamming, 1 song with Ghost Hounds, one song Joe Perry & a song off my new record called "By the sword" with Wolfmother.

I guess that answers that question. He did play the new one again with Wolfmother this time, so I will be interested to see if another video turns up of it (maybe a little better quality) so be on the lookout.

Three bands at 2 different venues in one night is pretty good for Slash. He certainly has been making the rounds lately.

If all of the songs on the album are this good it seems that Slash has been reinvigorated. It's a pretty damn awesome track, and I can't wait to hear the album version of it. Certainly makes me feel better about the solo album, because it looks like it could feature his best work since 1991.
And I haven't been this excited for something of Slash's since the run-up to Contraband. Maybe not that long, but still...

Nice to hear him getting back to doing what he does best.  This is a hell of a lot better than the PC remix, Sahara, or Libertad, that's for sure

Well, this is the first video to surface of Slash playing with Wolfmother at the Wiltern last night and it only has the last minute or so of the song. Hopefully a good quality full version surfaces as the days goes on.

Also, here is a link to Slash playing "Walkin' The Dog" with Joe Perry at the House of Blues last night.

Here we have a very clean sounding version from when he played at the Wolfmother Concert.

Solo sounded alot better in this version, backing band better at Slash & Friends.

Loving Andrew's vocals as the song gets a real heavy Zeppelin vibe at points.

Mixed properly this thing is going to sound badass in the studio.

Slash should invite himself to join Wolfmother once his album cycle is done though, because I never appreciated how big and awesome a voice Andrew has. He has major range, and it sounds awesome with Slash's guitar.

I have to say that Slash's work on this song is fantastic.  Just fantastic.  Well done, Slash  ok

However, and this is a minor complaint, I find Stockdale's voice to be a bit abrasive in its nasal-ness.

But, the song itself is great.  Slash's riff is excellent, as is his lead work.

I don't care if you are a "old" guns fan or a "new" guns fan or just a "guns" fan if you are a fan of good rock n roll music you damn well know this a fucking awesome song. Slash has a great tone on the video ; I know the recording is going to sound great the middle slow solo reminds me of UYI era slash very bendy and melodic. Good stuff only hope is that their is more rocking songs on the album ( AFD style riffs i'd die !!! )

By the sword - unofficial lyrics.   (Stolen from elsewhere)

With the horses that you ride,
And the feelings left inside,
There's a time you need to hear the songs in life,
Well they claim they'd like to know,
And they'll fight you there to go,
And they're gatherin' around for all the show,

Well there is a reward,
To live and die by the sword,
Well they tried to complicate you,
But you left it all behind,
All the worldly posessions,
Are left for recollections,
And you find it in the sword ... no?

They're releasing all the hounds,
What is lost can still be found,
When you're walking down the town along the ground,
Well they stay there to survive,
(?) ... this searching sound,
and the journey's just begun,

Well there is a reward,
To live and die by the sword,
Well they tried to complicate you,
But you left it all behind,
All the worldly posessions,
Are left for recollections,
And you find it in the sword ... no?

With the horses that you ride,
And the feelings left inside,
there's a time you need to leave it all behind,

Well there is no reward,
To live and die by the sword,
Well they tried to complicate you,
But you left it all behind,
All the worldly posessions,
Are left for recollections,
And you find it in the sword ... no?
