i met Duff the other day at a signing he did before doing a show in Birmingham.

Was only for a few seconds but it was pretty amazing to meet someone responsible for alot of great songs, and someone that is a huge influence on my bass playing.

This was at the end of the meet and greet where we hung out with the guys on the tour bus. They were exactly how everyone said they were, down to earth, funny and cool as hell. Cant wait till next time round.

just to clarify this for people that dont know, the staff at the venue who sell the merch were given strict instuctions to tell the people who bought the meet and greets that they must return to the merch area straight after the loaded set NOT black stone cherry's.
the same happened in london at the hammersmith and jeff had to make an announcement.
apart from that its all good and this tour is AMAZING!

cool performance, he (and VR) perform It's so Easy faster than current GNR's version, both veriosn are fine, only Axl knows how to hit those high notes at the end of the song though.

Live Review: Black Stone Cherry, Duff McKagan?s Loaded, The Parlor Mob

An evening of retro-tinged rock in Birmingham.

For another support band to follow that would be difficult, so luckily for the group next on stage they are fronted by a bone fide rock legend; Duff McKagan made his name as bassist for Guns ?n? Roses and Velvet Revolver, but he?s actually been in Loaded, his hometown band, longer than he has played for any other band. Before you judge, Loaded is not just a poor excuse for a band that gets gigs because of their frontman ? far from it. They play a likeable form of sleazy, punky rock and do it with a passion and attitude that really seems to strike a chord with the crowd. Their own material like ?Sleaze Factory? and ?Sick? are good enough to win people over ? although this was helped with the inclusion of a couple of classic punk covers in the shape of ?Attitude? and ?New Rose?. Duff?s guitar playing is solid, his raspy vocals fit the music perfectly and he is clearly healthy and enjoying himself with Loaded, something the crowd pick up and respond to by really getting into the performance. A finale of one of his own classics ? GNR?s ?It?s So Easy? ? ensures one hell of a cheer as Loaded exit the stage.

The Best of?Duff McKagan NSFW

October 23, 2009

Bona fide rock legend chats to On Stage

He made his name in Guns n Roses and, while he?s not trying to find a new singer for Velvet Revolver, Duff McKagan fronts his own band Loaded, who recently hit the UK supporting Black Stone Cherry. He took time out to give us the lowdown.

Best news you?ve had today?

That Cheryl Cole is on the L?Oreal billboards all over town ? that?s pretty good news if you?re a male, which I am.

Best thing about touring the UK?

The UK really seems to get Loaded?s brand of rock and roll more than anywhere else, so it?s great for us to play over here.

Best thing about being in Loaded?

I?m the boss! Haha! It?s just easy man, everybody gets along and it?s great being in a kick-ass rock band; I?ve been in kick-ass rock bands before, but it?s really easy touring with this band and there?s no big egos with these guys. My ego is probably the biggest to be honest.

Best song your band has written?

The one we just wrote for our new record ? but it doesn?t have a title yet.

Best line you?ve ever written?

You don?t have to cut me to the bone.

Best thing about your fellow band members?

Jeff has got a fuckin? large cock?woah, did I say that out loud? Jeff (bass) is the mellow guy, he can always be relied on to keep things calm. Squires (guitar), you can wind him up pretty good, and he won?t even know you?re winding him up. Isaac, our new drummer, he?s a wicked drummer ? he?s Matt Cameron?s favourite drummer, which says a lot. He also gets our humour.

Best gig you?ve ever played?

As Loaded, we played a gig in Dublin the other night, which was one of our best, and also Download was pretty good here in the summer. But Dublin was filled to capacity ? last year we played the same venue and it was full, but not to capacity, and it really does make a difference.

Best band you?ve ever shared a stage with?

We played gigs last Spring with Nine Inch Nails, when they were, I think, at their pinnacle, and that was pretty cool.

Best gig you?ve ever seen as a fan?

I saw Prince at the 31-21 club in Las Vegas ? it was a smallish club and he did about 5 nights there, and he only played early stuff, up to Purple Rain. It was stellar.

Best band ever?

That has to be Led Zeppelin.

Best album ever?

Refused ? Shape of Punk to Come

Best song ever?

Queens of the Stone Age ? Feel Good Hit of the Summer

Best bassist ever?

The best rock bassist is John Paul Jones, you can learn so many things as a bassist off of him. Paul Simonon from the Clash was stylistically the guy, that?s who drew me to the instrument, but to learn more about the skill of playing bass, you have to listen to John Paul Jones. Once you?ve done that, you can then check out James Jamerson and others of his era, but people in rock wouldn?t necessarily know those guys straight away.

Best movie ever?

It?s a Wonderful Life.

Best ice cream flavour?

My woman?s ass cream!

Best pizza topping?

I don?t like pizza.

Best day of your life?

Woah?.when I made my first million! Haha, just joking! Well, I have two kids, so the days my daughters were born were by far the best days of my life.

Best piece of advice you?ve ever been given?

Don?t email straight away. When someone sends you a fucked up message, don?t reply right away, sit on it, think, write your email, let it sit for a minute, come back to it, edit it, then send it.
