MOT?RHEAD's LEMMY Says 'Breakdown In Communication' Is To Blame For DEE's Absence From Tour - Sep. 11, 2009

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum played his second show with MOT?RHEAD Wednesday night (September 9) at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City.

At 9:30, Lemmy marched on stage with his black cowboy hat and boots looking like a civil war general ready for battle. He readied his bass and growled into the mic, ?We are Motorhead, and we play rock 'n? roll!? What followed was 90 great minutes of Motorhead, the loudest band on the planet. A band so loud, your brain fills with fuzz, the only sane thing to do is to nod your head and smack your hands against your thighs with every snare hit. Unfortunately, behind the snare smashing wasn?t the usual Mickey Dee, but Matt Sorum of Guns n' Roses filling in decently for a fast, loud and relentless set led by the wart faced God himself Lemmy Kilmister. Long-time Motorhead vet Phil Campbell shredded at his side.

Motorhead @ House of Blues Orlando (9-16-09)

Filling in on drums for Mikkey Dee (who apparently is a cast member on a Swedish reality TV show and couldn?t make this tour) is Matt Sorum (The Cult, Guns & Roses, Velvet Revolver) ? it was a surprise, no doubt, but Sorum met the challenge and played one hell of a set ? he is a hard-hitting drummer, and didn?t miss a single beat...I was particularly impressed with Sorum, because he opened this tour just a week before this show after only one rehearsal with the band.

For the most part the reviews have been positive.  And the shows must be loud, I don't think I've seen a review yet that hasn't mentioned the sound.

Of course, he had plenty reason to be pleased; joining Lemmy on stage was longtime guitarist Phil Campbell and former Guns N' Roses drumemr Matt Sorum, whose showmanship, if somewhat wankerish, offered a perfect backing to the Lemmy's posturing and, well, incredibly loud performance.

And from the show yesterday at Stubb's Austin TX:

The drum chair was filled in by former Cult/Guns ?n? Roses drummer Matt Sorum, who performed pretty much perfectly. As with most Motorhead shows, classic tracks ruled the day (?Stay Clean,? ?Ace of Spades,? ?Killed By Death?) with a few new ones here and there (?Rock Out,? ?Just ?Cos You Got The Power?) that didn?t sound all that different from the old stuff.

MATT SORUM: Playing With MOT?RHEAD Is 'One Of The Most Challenging Things I've Ever Done' - Sep. 23, 2009

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum is filling in for MOT?RHEAD's regular drummer, Mikkey Dee, on the band's current tour so that Dee can take part in "K?ndisdjungeln", the Swedish version of the popular U.K. and U.S. reality-TV show "I'm a Celebrity?Get Me out of Here!".

"I was absolutely blown away and was very honored to get the call," Sorum tells U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine. "I got a text from [MOT?RHEAD bassist/vocalist] Lemmy and called him back right away and said, 'Why are you calling me?' [laughs] I was at home by the pool, rubbing lotion on my lovely girlfriend, and now here I am. I manned up!"

"Matt was right up for it immediately," Lemmy told Classic Rock. "That's really rare; a lot of guys wouldn't do it on short notice."

"It's been one of the most challenging things I've ever done," added Sorum. "It's the best tour I've ever done: I've lost a few pounds and got about 25 blisters, which is great!"

Read more from Classic Rock magazine.

According to this Matt is done touring with Motorhead, I read that Mikkey Dee took 3rd on the reality show.

September 29, 2009

I was relieved to learn during our conversation that Mot?rhead's lightning-fast and obscenely heavy drummer Mikkey Dee was back in the fold after a brief absence spent participating as a contestant in the Swedish version of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" He was temporarily replaced by Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum...

I just saw this, it is dated Sept. 23rd from Matt Sorum.

Fillin in for Mikkey

Hey Friends, Have been out on the road for 6 shows with the mighty Motorhead filling in for the great Mikkey Dee. It is a real honor to be onstage with these guys. Mikkey is some big shoes to fill. Got a text from Lemmy about a week prior to them leaving on tour. Met up with the boys in Atlantic City and watched Mikkey do his thing as well as Boston. Took some notes from the live show and a cool Wacken, Germany DVD to learn the show. Had one rehearsal the day before at 930 Club and jumped in the following night. It was a bit of a challenge I must say. Learning 18 songs , wanting it to be as good as possible so as not to let any of the fans down. 6 gigs in have to say startin to feel great now and want to thank everyone who came out and supported Motorhead in Mikkeys absense. It has been an amazing tour so far hanging with Lemmy, Phil and the entire Motorhead crew. These guys are the real deal and can teach us all a thing or two about Rock n Fuckin Roll. I hope to see you out at the next few shows with Motorhead.

Long Live Lemmy,Phil and Mikkey?. Motorhead!!!!!
