Quote
Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum is set to deputise for Mikkey Dee on the Mot?rhead drumstoool ? while Dee appears in the Swedish version of TV?s I?m A Celebrity? Get Me Out Of Here!
On the one-year anniversary of the release of Mot?rizer, and the day prior to embarking on a North American tour, Mot?rhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister spoke exclusively with Aaron Small from BraveWords.com.

It was recently announced that Mot?rhead drummer Mikkey Dee will only partake in the first and final dates of this 29 city trek.

Reason being, he?ll be filming Sweden?s version of I?m A Celebrity? Get Me Of Here!

?I can?t wait to see that,? chuckles Lemmy. ?He?s in the Malaysian jungle, and he doesn?t like bugs. And I think they have to be parachuted into the fucking thing ? and he doesn?t like heights either. So it?s definitely going to be worth watching.?

The question beckons, who will Mikkey?s temporary replacement be?

Lemmy answers: ?Matt Sorum? of The Cult, Guns N? Roses, Velvet Revolver and Camp Freddy.

Although Matt is only a couple of weeks away from joining Mot?rhead on stage, surprisingly he hasn?t rehearsed with the band.

?No, not yet. He?s going to have to learn some bits of it from the live DVDs. He?ll come out for a couple of days before he starts to watch Mikkey to get the idea. He?ll be alright, he?s a professional.?

It seems rather strange, Mikkey missing the majority of a tour to be part of a reality TV show. Lemmy clarifies the situation:

?Well he already had it booked, you see. The tour came late. He didn?t tell anybody that he?d declared himself for this thing. Otherwise I would have insisted on him doing the tour, obviously. But seeing as it was a prior obligation, if you say you?ll be there? I think he?s already had the fucking shots, the anti-tropical disease shots.?

Apparently he was the 2nd choice behind Dave Grohl.

This was from before Matt Sorum was named as a replacement...

MOT?RHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee will sit out most of the band's upcoming North American tour in order to take part in the first season of "K?ndisdjungeln", the Swedish version of the popular U.K. and U.S. reality-TV show "I'm a Celebrity?Get Me out of Here!"

"I start the U.S. tour with MOT?RHEAD on August 27," Dee tells the Expressen newspaper. "I just have time to play a couple of gigs before it's time to go to the jungles of Malaysia to do this TV show. I will then rejoin the band on the road and finish out the tour."

it is an odd choice to say the least

Indeed.

Why?

Because Matt and Mikkey are very, very different drummers. That's why it's going to be so intersting to see this happening. As a Mot?rhead fan, I'd think of many other drummers before thinking of Matt Sorum to replace Mikkey.
But I'm sure Matt can pull it off.

I think Matts cool and everything but I think Mikkey Dee is the best drummer in hard rock. Just endless power and groove. Matts just rock solid.

Here it says it will be a two week hiatus, but I've read it will be longer?

But the lineup that played Boston, with guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikky Dee, has been together 17 years. That?s as close to permanent as it gets (Dee is set to embark on a two-week hiatus to film the Swedish version of ?I?m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!?; Guns N? Roses/Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum, who was at the show studying for his temp job, will fill his spot.)

I think Dave is pretty much every rock/metal/punkbands first choice, so that's no surprise.

it'll sure be cool to see Matt playing with them!

Motorhead (with Matt Sorum), Reverend Horton Heat, Nashville Pussy, & The Episodes @ Roseland Ballroom - pics

For a couple of weeks during Mot?rhead's U.S. headlining tour, the band's long-time basher of skins, drummer Mikkey Dee, will be filming season one of K?ndisdjungeln, Sweden's version of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Of Here!

Velvet Revolver drummer, Matt Sorum, got the call from Lemmy and will fill in during Mikkey's absence. Formerly of Guns N' Roses and The Cult, Matt is a world-class musician. He and Lemmy have been friends since they toured together when Mot?rhead performed some dates with GN'R and Metallica years ago. Matt will come out to a few of the early tour dates to "watch Mikkey and get the idea," says Lem. "He'll be alright, he's a professional."

Matt Sorum was the drummer at last night's Motorhead show at Roseland Ballroom in NYC which had almost as many bands on the bill (4) as the number of dollars some people paid for tickets (5). Opening acts at the 9/9/9 show were Reverend Horton Heat, Nashville Pussy, and The Episodes who come from Ohio and have some members that aren't old enough to drive yet. More pictures, and a few more words about the show, below...
