Exactly right... No way a dealer gives you fair value for things like that,  because they want to profit as much as they can...

But if a car is worth more than the clunker trade in, and they can profit $3K by reselling it they would buy it to turn around and sell it

Absolutely, they would, but the program says they have to smoosh the car as part of the program, so I guess you wouldn't label such cars as "clunkers", instead "gas guzzler", different deal all together.

Screw mpg and all that crap give me a car I can step on the gas and pull out into moving traffic without worrying about dying.  I love my V8 gas guzzler and would never drive a girly hybrid.  BTW my V8 gets only 13 mpg and I love it.

To each their own .  If your budget allows you to spend that way on gas, but sadly enough you are not considering your environment.  Sounds like you are not a team player .

mine is already a cute fuel efficient one. I bacically prefer beetle or mini to Mercedes.
I'll get a real electric car not a half assed one when it is available in the future.

I actually care for the environment a lot.  I don't litter, I recycle and I clean up trash just about anytime I see it. I believe that I am a team player. So I think I have the right to drive the type of car I prefer.  I am doing more to my car and it will soon get less MPG and this is my daily driver.

It's all good TransAmMan, you have the right to drive what ever you choose, and love it too .  I was once in love with TA's back in the day, but never ended up owning one.
