. One question, though. When this interview first came out, didn't Axl mention that the band went to China to check it out in case they ever got banned or did that take place in another interview or did I just imagine that? I just listened to the recordings posted here and didn't catch it.

He did say that in the interview. Didn't listen to all the clips above, but I have the entire thing on my PC. Someone (I think it was Baz) asked him something like: "Did you go to China for three months?" And Axl replied: "Yeah, we went there and stayed for three months. I wanted to go before they banned me!" Then Baz or Trunk followed up: "What was that like?" Axl:" He filmed....eh... they eat a lot of bugs...."

Yeah, he was asked if he ate bugs. so it was actually in this interview.

edit:found the bit

Bach: And than you were telling me the other day that you lived in China for three months?

Axl: Yeah, we went and stayed in China for about three months, Beijing, Shanghai, and Xian

Bach: What was that like?

Axl: We'll he filmed like, you know they eat alot of bugs.

Bach: What is it like the Fear Factor show?

Axl: Absolutely

Trunk: How long ago did you live there?

Bach: Did you eat bugs?

Axl: Well, I didn't live there, we just went and stayed there a couple of years ago.

Trunk: A couple of years ago. That inspired the name of the album at all?

Axl: No it was before that but then I just thought I should go. I wanted to go before they banned me. So, you know, I mean Chinese Democracy that doesn't quite work for the government over there.

This is, in my opinion, the best rock interview I've ever heard live.  Axl gets such a bad rap in public yet here he comes off as a very funny, very intelligent and grounded person.  It's a shame more people couldn't hear this.  Although, they would probably prefer to keep on believing the bullshit and lies anyway

(not sure this deserves its own thread at this stage, but it is slow around here and this is worth a listen or re-listen for any GNR fan)

Man can I just say. I have always totally loved that laugh!!!

hehe! me too. Smiley

it felt like people just hanging out and talking rather than an interview. lots of fun memories from the past plus talk of the future as well.

I love when Axl says that Piazza played for the "Pirates" and that dipshit Trunk didn't get it.

I was just re-listening to this interview and caught this comment... great joke that went over everybody's head!

I also like when Pizza goes "I had Appetite For Destruction they day it came out" and Axl shoots back with "Oh yeah? I had that the day your thing came out" and it's like no one got it. It was pretty damn fast witted.

not to harp on it, but if Axl had done interviews like that for CD, tell me it wouldn't have been much bigger and Axl's image would've completely been overhauled.

I'm glad the controversy over One in a Million didn't stop Axl from making jokes of that manner.

Could you please clarify what One in a Million has to do with that joke?

He talks about gays in that song.

Hold on I'm finding the link...I just downloaded it last month.

Okay, go here:

http://www.q1043.com/common/podcast/single_page.html?podcast=soundfiles

Since there are so many interviews, just hit "CTRL + f" and search for "Axl"  There are like 5-6 parts of the interview that you have to download.
