I had a copy of 'Thriller', who didn't?

Despite his increasingly bizarre behavior over the last fifteen to twenty years--the botched plastic surgery and the sexual abuse allegations--Michael Jackson was an icon to those of us who grew up in the 1980's in the same way Elvis and The Beatles were to the generation before us.

One of a kind, he was.

Thriller was the first album I ever bought.  Dangerous was underrated imo.

RIP Michael.  Gone Too Soon.

a Family friend on the news said that MJ's enablers made Anna Nicole Smith's look like nothing.

So it will be very unfortunate if these hanger ons and enablers helped lead to his death

I just saw the helicopter that was carrying Micheal's body outside my house. Got the chills for a moment.

So so sad, big part of my life, especially the 80's, but even the 70's had the Jackson Five, he will also be greatly missed in my family as well.  Loved the song "Ben".  Rest well now Michael, and my prayers to his family.

This is so, so sad for me.  It was so shocking at first, but now that it has sunk in, I just can't keep myself from crying.  I feel like a huge part of my generation's culture has died.  He was our Elvis...  Maybe now he will find the peace he was searching for.  He was the most amazing entertainer our generation ever had the opportunity to see, and this is such a loss.

The dude seriously glided like he was on ice. I've never seen someone dance that way with so much agility and I don't know what u call it.

I know.  Once you started watching him dance, you just couldn't stop.  He was amazing.  I had my students watch some video of him moonwalking once in a speech class, (I tried to incorporate it into the whole "How to be a Great Performer" thing, but really, I just wanted to expose them to his talent because all they knew we're the bad things), and they we're beside themselves.   They THOUGHT Chris Brown could dance until they saw the man he learned it all from!

I was never a fan of his, but I am so sad.

In a way though, he's free.  I don't think he had a very happy life.  His dad would beat him before shows when he was a kid.  He had all these trials, which are never easy on anyone.  Tack on the health problems and money problems, and it's a wonder he made it so far.

But I never got that "phony" vibe I get from other pop stars.  He seemed pretty real.

Hope he is happy wherever he is now.

Much respect to Michael Jackson.

In many ways, him and Axl have a lot of similarities.

There was another thread about the saddest tragedy in music... I'm thinking for me and my generation, this  very well may be it.
