As we are excactly half-way into the year, which of the albums released so far this year do you feel is the best album of 2009?

For me it would have to be one of the following:

Bob Dylan - Together Through Life
Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
Eminem - Relapse

All excellent albums Cool

im really pleased with the new Hardcore Superstar album.

Very strong effort. Thats 3 strong albums in a row, to me, they ARE one of the best hard rock bands of this generation.

The Devil You Know by Black Sabbath
Heaven and Hell, no Sabbath without Ozzy  no

Ain't seen any albums this year that i've been interested in or have impressed me much. Quite liked 'The Ballad of John Henry' by Joe Bonamassa, but as an overall album it's not that great, just a couple decent tracks

Right now

The Aggrolites -- "IV" great album sounds like Toots and The Maytals meets 60's doowhop and soul

Rancid -- "Let The Dominoes Fall" best stuff they've done since "Life Won't Wait" and since Joe Strummer is gone, this is the closest thing we have to the Clash

Mos Def -- "The Ecstatic", good to hear the BKMC back on the wax.

K'naan - Troubadour

Rock hasn't done much for me in the past 6 months.. I listened to 21st Century a couple of times, but I don't see the greatness others are talking about.  I will give it a few more spins.

I haven't heard it yet. Is the Green Day album really that different than any of the other ones? I liked American Idiot well enough but didn't think it was drastically different than what they had done in the past. 5 part songs? They took 5 of their short songs and put them together. Suddenly the critics were hailing them as the kings of rock and roll (always helps with the critics when you get political too).

This is all coming from someone who listened to Dookie about 3 times a day when it came out. I hate to be negative but all the recent Green Day hype just leaves me scratching my head. I'll give the album a chance if it's really that good.

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do. It wasn't a glove, believe me.

It IS really that good. One of the better rock albums of recent times. Enormous quality on the songs, much darker and coherant than American Idiot and with much more substance.
