Moby mentions Axl

What are your favorite records that you?ve made?
Well, this is why I?m one of the worst judges of my own music. Because my favorite record of all the records I?ve made was this album called Animal Rights that I made in 1996. No one else likes it. Of all the ones I?ve made, that?s probably the only one I really go back to and listen to. And it sold nothing. And it got terrible reviews?I think Rolling Stone gave it one out of ten stars. But you know, it had three fans, and they were the weirdest?Terence Trent D?Arby wrote me a fan letter to say that he loved it, on Terence Trent D?Arby stationary. Bono, in a bar, told me that he liked it as much as the first Clash album. And Axl Rose told me that he listened to it on repeat. So the three of them liked it, and no one else!

I love that album also. I actually own two copies. I love " That's When I Reach for My Revolver". Kick ass!

A good follow-up question might have been: "Speaking of Axl, what happened with you and Chinese Democracy..."

Yes his taste is questionable..Didn't he leave the Gwen Stefani version of a song off of his actual album....

Sounds like a little publicity stunt to boost sales.

I believe at the time he wasn't ready to commit to the project. I guess he was gonna focus on working on his own music instead (Play).
Found the quote:
Axl Rose recently asked Moby to produce the next Guns N' Roses album and he declined.
"I would have had to move to L.A. for 10 months to do it," he explains. Rose was interested in Moby after hearing Animal Rights. "Even though it means giving up a couple of million dollars, I had to say no." (Just in case you're wondering, Moby got along great with the band and still wants to help out.)

Animal Rights must be pretty good for Axl to consider Moby as a producer for CD.

I remember reading at the time that Moby was going to produce GNR, I went out and bought Animal Rights and just did not get it, but a few years later he put out Play, which is a beautiful record-I would have like to have seen him work with GNR, it would have been interesting

Animal Rights is ideed a fuckin' awesome album! Nothing like anything moby has ever done since. It's heavy as hell with lots of great guitar work. Brilliant. No wonder why axl wanted to work with moby...

I'm right with you on that. First thing I thought of too. A beautiful piece of music... much like most if not all of Moby's material.

I went out and ordered
Animal Rights
on vinyl now. A lot of people have now plugged it to me and some say they can hear it on
Chinese Democracy
(!) - the influence and such. Here and there. Cool.
Yeah, TTD went off the tracks a while back. Haven't heard from him since. His debut album, though, is a masterstroke and a classic.

I forgot about TTD, I can remember liking "Wishing Well" back in the day. Wow!! It's been awhile.
