We all understand this is a GNR site with a VR section.
If you're not into VR or it's members, this probably isn't the best portion of the site to spend your time posting for reactionary purposes.
Clear enough for everyone?
Not really.
So I have to be a VR fan to comment about them on a GN'R site?
That makes very little sense.
You fail to see the distinction between VR fans, GN'R fans who also like VR and GN'R fans who are curious about the former members' current activities without being fans of their bands.
Maybe Jim Bob is curious to know that Duff has a new band and maybe he'll even listen to them to see what they're like. He has that choice, but because he's not a VR fan he's not allowed to comment?
A bunch of GN'R fans still like to keep track of what those guys are doing because of their past history in GN'R. Doesn't mean they have to like everything.
And before you Slash fans go on and say the same applies to GN'R, that you don't have to like anything Axl does, well this is a GN'R site.
So it's assumed you like GN'R (2009).
If you stopped liking GN'R in 1996, you might need some other site dedicated to nostalgia.
So, in short, this section is
not
for Slash fans, it's for
GN'R fans
who also like/are curious about the ex-members' current activities.
That seems to confuse some of you because you seem to think this is some kind of Slash fans' safe haven.

You know how I meant it Jarmo, no reason to go into semantics to explain your reasoning.

Just making it clear.
I don't own Libertad because the songs I heard sucked. If people think that means I'm not allowed to comment on whatever Duff, Matt or Slash does in 2009, think again.

Jarmo, I think what disco12 is getting at is the absolute blind fanaticism of some Axl fans on this site. Some have lost their objectivity. It as is if Axl were to come out and say that the sky was red there would be 10-12 people on here talking about how he was right and the rest of us who say the sky is blue are trolls, non-fans, haters, etc.
So?
Seriously, why do you have to be "objective"? We're fans! We're not supposed to be objective. Not even journalists are objective.
And that's supposed to be their job.....
Can you listen to a new track by your favorite artist and be completely objective? Either you hope it'll be awesome or you try to be "objective" and look for faults.
I happen to prefer the first kind of people here.
The kind who don't write off a new band member based on some fucking photos!
This is a rock band, not a life and death matter. So being biased isn't exactly a must.
I don't see any problem with believing in what the band says either.
Being objective seems to be about thinking you know everything, having limited knowledge and judging the band based on the little you know.
The bigger problem is those who cling onto the whole "objectivity" and question everything in the name of objectivity!
You have to question everything, you have to call Axl a liar, because if you don't, you're not a sane objective person.
I don't buy that mentality.
The whole idea that you have to be negative and complain on a fan site is just a waste of time.
If an artists constantly upset your and brings you down, shouldn't you find something that actually makes you happy? Why the fuck would you choose to dwell on shit year after year when the artist only causes you to be upset?
/jarmo
Can I listen to a new song from a fave band and be objective? Yes, absolutely. I love Radiohead but objectively I can say that Kid A and Amenesiac do not have the same song power as OK Computer or The Bends. When I bought Pearl Jam's Binaural I hoped it was gonna be awesome but it wasn't. Was I supposed to lie to myself and say that it was? As a GnR fan I'm not gonna lie to myself and say that OMG or Silkworms were great songs.
I guess when it comes to music being objective is subjective. Personally, I think This I Love is horrible but others think it is great. I am being objective for my tastes when comparing it to other GnR songs. Make sense?
So when Marilyn Manson had a t-shirt that said kill your parents, did you kill your parents? Or did you objectively lookat that and think "That's not my cup of tea." I guess I do come from the school of Question Everything. IMO you can't afford not to in the world that we live in. If not then you end up sending a bunch of money to some "king" in Africa

You're missing jarmo's point entirely. If you come to a fan forum (key word: fan) to post, you're expected to be supportive, hence the word "fan". If you want to be "objective", why not go post on a neutral board like on mtv.com or something and not a Guns N' Roses fan forum. If at least half of your posts are of the kind "I think Axl owes us an explanation" or "I'm starting to doubt everything that goes on in the GN'R world" lately, then you've really come to the wrong place.

I don't think anyone thinks you're not allowed to comment on VR
at all
if you don't like them, it's just that people tend to get annoyed with repeated comments with the same basic theme. There's a difference between saying (or implying) you're not a fan of something and leaving it at that and saying it whenever you get the chance, even when Slash is doing something for charity.

That's perfectly fine. But if someone ridiculously tries to turn a visit to promote music in schools (whether it's Slash or anyone else) into a negative thing then they're going to get called out for it. That's all that was happening in this thread.

Think about it. What the fuck does Axl owe you? In his own words, not one goddamn thing. The man is creating music. We don't help him do it, we don't pay him to do it, we don't know him personally. So that means that if you come here and criticize him under the shield of being a "fan", you're just some person ragging on another guy's work and accomplishments. Where the fuck is the sense in that? Doesn't make any sense to me. What is your right to do that? Because he's a public figure and put his work out there? Leave him alone or support him. It could never enter my head to come here and try to tell him what he should do. Do strangers do that at your work? If you support him, great, if you don't, get the fuck out because this place is clearly not intended for people like you.

Jarmo, u know what Falcon was talking about.
He was talking about people like Jim Bob who "CLAIM" to hate Slash, constantly coming into Slash threads to start shit which he does.
That isn't needed and isn't necessary and serves no purpose whatsoever but to start fights and shit.
I don't care if people hate Slash. If u think he is a liar: Fine, If u think his music today sucks: Fine but posting stuff to consciously start fights with people is ridiculous.
Slash raised awareness for a charity. Kind of hard to raise awareness with no publicity, that defeats the purpose. Visiting a Cancer ward is a totally different thing.
when u are doing charity work for a place that needs funding, its a good idea to get press out of that cause people will make donations.
For Jim Bob to come into a positive thread and start with the same ole shit, it just isn't warranted.
when Slash's Solo CD comes out, if he wants to go ahead and write up his review right now before its even released about how much it sucks, that is fine.
I just don't think its fair to have two separate sets of rules

How much do you pay Axl? What salary do you give him to work on his music? As far as I know, he has a contract with a record label and he makes his own music on his terms. End of story. We pay for the fucking product, like we pay for any other product. We don't pay him to make it.

Actually, if you think about it, we do pay him. He is in the position he is in because of the fans, same for every famous musician/actor/athlete etc.
What is my right to do that? Freedom of speech, thought, opinion.
Leave him alone or support him? Why does it have to be so black and white? There is a vast difference between support and blind support.

My point still stands. Why wouldn't he have money then? Because we fired him? No. He gets paid because he is successful at what he does. We didn't hire him, he made his own career that has nothing to do with us as individuals. What right do we have to criticize his work?

There aren't 2 seperate sets of rules. There is one set of rules and then no rules when it comes to bagging on Slash. Supposedly there is an ex-members section so GNR "fans" can check out what Izzy, Robin, Bucket, etc. are doing. But somehow those people choose to post about Slash instead. I don't know why they don't get it over with and just fuckin delete anything to do with Slash.
