http://www.farejando.com.br/rockinrio/pesquisa/bandasmadrid.html

Go to where it says : DI EL NOMBRE DE UN GRUPO QUE QUIERAS VER EN ROCK IN RIO 2010 Y QUE NO EST? EN EL LISTADO DE ARRIBA and write Guns n?Roses. You can also chose more bands from the above list  Smiley

I mean... we'll see GNR onstage in 2009, not necessarily in RIR Festival

I knew and I know that they can't tour every country in the year.
Fans would rather go see the shows and enjoy themselves than check into the setlists or youtube clips.

Rock in Rio should be in RIO.   rant

The guy who changed that should just DROP DEAD.

Europe has enough festivals. And even if they didn't, the bands go there all the freakin' time.

Since they figured out that RIR in Europe is cheaper than in Brazil, we lost our festival forever.
Thank god have we have Tim Festival so far.
But I guess Guns would never play there.

RiR is owned  by brazilians, so that's why most of the planning and organizing for the festival's different events across the world takes place in Brazil.

You mean since they figured out they can charge more in Europe and therefore, get even richer ...

I'm almost sure that the Rock in Rio Festival is (and has always been) a fund raising event that supports different charities to heighten awareness to the needs of our (the world's) children and future generations.  They support things like childhood healthcare and education by building and funding hospitals and schools.

This year?s theme is to focus on making sure that we make and leave the planet inhabitable for them.

?Rock in Rio took place for the first time in Brazil in 1985 with more than 1 million people audience. Since then it has become a reference for everyone who likes music and is compromised ?For a Better World? (the event?s slogan).

This new edition will take place in Lisbon and Madrid during the months of May, June and July (the last 5 editions took place in Brazil and Portugal) and is aimed to make people aware of the effects of the climate change. The Rock in Rio organization will donate from 2% to 5% of the tickets rate to educational projects about this problem."

Well, it will donate FROM 2% to 5%. Read that, right there at the bottom?
Where does the rest go?  Roll Eyes
Probably to someone who doesn't even really need it.

But whatever, let them be.
I hope wherever it's gonna be, they have fun there.
Maybe one day we will get a Rock in Rio Beijing. That would be so much fun.

The 2% to 5% of the tickets price goes towards THIS project.

"The Rock in Rio organization will donate from 2% to 5% of the tickets rate to educational projects about this problem."

So maybe the rest goes to the many many many other children's charities they sponsor?  ok

I seriously doubt that... What I understood is that this year ( or next, whatever) they are sponsoring this project, so the 5% go to them... The next time they do it, the 5% will go to something else...

But who knows, maybe they ARE good souls and give it all away.
But I still doubt it...

They can't book venues, hire staff, book artists etc for free.

Obviously somebody's making money on it or the festival would probably not exist.

It's not only that.
First, Euro is stronger than Real.
Besides, it's cheaper to get flying tickets or private planes from UK to Lisbon, than from UK to Rio.
With the equipment it's just the same.
Next wednesday we're gonna have an Iron Maden concert in my city (Recife), and they had 400 tons of equipment.
If you calculate all this amount of weight, for the number of bands that go to RIR, the whole festival gets REALLY expensive.
That's why they quit doing it here.
Unfortunatelly...
If we wanna go, we are the ones who move. Not the bands.
And we keep doing that all the time.
I once traveled to a Guns concert in US, in 2002.
When I got there, the gig was canceled.
Shit happens to everyone
