No, but it does make it sounding more like the hard rock from AFD's Slash.

It's also a really strong setup for any hard rock band.

Didn't Robin used also Alnico II Pro too?

yeah, he had those on some guitars. but he didn't go as far as promoting it with a top hat and a  banner that said Gn'r's guitar player ahahah

a shitload of people use those pickups, some because of slash, because they are his signature pickups, he's always had them and young guitar players specially believe that if you use someone else's pickups you will sound just like them, so that pushes a lot of kids to buy them and try to get slash's sound.

DJ has been promoting a lot of brands for a long time, so it's only natural he keeps on doing that, but there's something kinda off when he promotes those pickups, wearing a top hat ( that he has used many times before but in a differente setting) and with a banner that says Guns n' Roses, when all he's done in Gn'r to this day is pretty much announce he was part of it. i dunno. people won't buy the pickups because of his sound in gn'r cuz no one really knows that. so i don't know why he'd promote something as a gn'r member when you've done nothing in the band so far.

Bumblefoot i get, but other than a small commercial by fortus, no one in the band actually does that... i suppose it's ok, it's just weird.

Like BBF going on tour with Lita, he probably needs the cash.  Doubt he is earning much for his efforts in GNR

Well, on like 90% of all GnR songs prior to CD, seymore duncan pick ups, on a Les Paus Gibson guitar and a Marshall amp is the formula... But many guitarists use that, its just that Slash kind of gets credited (by Gibson/Marshall also) for reintroducing that back to Rock N Roll in the 80's and to be honest, he did put that combo back on the map. Led Zepplin and Aerosmith also did that but that was in the 60's until very early 80's. I think he looks cool in that ad, and I dont think the connection was intended.. Good to see guitarists of today go back to basics!  ok

that mellow, idyllic sound? i somewhat think of the timbre of trumpet with it.

I dont think the connection was intended.. Good to see guitarists of today go back to basics!  ok

yes it was intended to look like jamiroquai gone rock.  Grin

hum so it's not just for gnr classics but for 60s/70s ish classic hard rock sound.

it's rock n roll, not a christian pop group. i'd say smoking goes hand in hand with gn'r.

he's not really promoting smoking either. he's just smoking. he's not advertising any of that.

I think he is throwing in a Slash look there, and I think its awesome...

He's making a bold statement by doing this, and he knows he can back it up...

If he has in fact worn this prior to being in GNR (i have no clue), its obviously a slash influence not a dig... I doubt the guy has ANY dislike for Slash at all, even he's said he 'grew up on him'....

Personally I don't think it's a Slash look.  I think he has more of a Crue vibe going on from the renuion/circus tour.  Can't remember what it was called.

I've been listening to Sixx AM and Beautiful Creatures the last few days while working out.  Pretty decent.  Can't wait to hear what he can contribute to GNR.

It's a catch-22 cuz if he wears his trademark bandana then he looks like Axl. lol  I  think he was doing it to be ironic and kind of tongue in cheek.   I'm pretty sure he has worn the tophat before(maybe even in the Cruefest DVD...not sure tho I"ll have to watch it again), and Mick Mars wears one in Motley Crue as well.  At least this is something cool to promote GNR.

Nah, he joined them for that one "Kick Out" song, it's obvious he's still friends with the BC guys.

it's not as if this was the first time he's in the jamiroquai-went-rock look.

question for our HTGTH guitarists. is Seymour Duncan and lespaul sorta necessary setup for some GNR songs?

It helps. GNR have some really thick lead tones. That's vintage slash. They offer lots of sustain which is necessary for GNR solos. They aren't a high gain high treble pickup which you'd hear from Zakk Wylde, Dimebag and others.
