click on your profile, then from the options on the left hand side click on Forum Profile Information there you'll have the option to pick one from the selection available on the board or give a link to a picture you want to use it must be 70x70 though

Well, Hammy was right, I think. But not anymore. The picture can be absolutely huge if you want, the site will resize it to fit. In fact, it annoys me when people use 70x70... I like to right click, view image, if it looks interesting. (Try it with mine. I tried it out to make sure. It's monstrous)

So the photo can be as big as you like, just bear in mind that on resizing it may go out of proportion if it doesn't fit the box to scale...

Problem with a lot of big .gif files is when they get resized the quality often goes straight out the window.

I personally find it annoying when people have slow loading avatars too.  I'm on fiber, 40+ megabits, and that still doesn't change the fact that lots of servers out there are slow and annoying!

On the other hand, it's a relatively minor annoyance, and if Jim gets a lot of pleasure out of seeing the larger avatars, I can deal.

In all seriousness though... My Aurora Borealis was just my seeing if the site would resize anything... Avatars that big can be a bitch, aye. The point is that if you have a normal sized picture, you don't have to make it smaller... Unless a large amount of us are still rocking 56k.

I have a 4mbps connection too. It's not the high res avatars that are irritating, but some users have animated gifs that
play like a small movie. Takes forever to load. Oh by the by, for some reason your avatar is not loading. Is it just me....
