I don't think much has changed since 02.
A picture is worth a thousand words
No, not much has changed since 2002......

Sure, hardcore fans will be at the show but that's not going to sell out a 20-30k stadium. The general public doesn't care about GnR anymore. I hate to say it but it's true.
Just because something is true in your corner of the world doesn't mean it's true elsewhere.
I hate to say it, but it's true!
Also, you don't know with who, how or when GN'R will tour in your area.
Quote from: gilld1 on September 03, 2009, 06:11:45 PM
What's wrong with the Eagles example. They disbanded for several years and then got it back together for great success, unlike GnR. You can't argue the point being made so you attack the example. Nice!!
Why? Different band, different millennium, different core audience, different everything?
Quote from: gilld1 on September 03, 2009, 06:11:45 PM
Never said the Year Zero comment was a fact. I'm not the one here that acts like their word is the word of God himself.
Oh right, you're not.
/jarmo
When I speak of things of course they're from a US standpoint. That's where I'm from. I'm not going to get on here and say GnR would sell out in Zimbabwe because I don't know.
The album came out here to a collective yawn from the general public, so no not much has changed HERE.
Didn't mean to harm your delicate sensibilities, Lord Jarmo!!

Don't worry about it and stop your agruing. What you need to know right now is it is looking like the band is putting a tour together. They do their homework, they know the state of things. Mr. Azoff knows his shit.
I think and wouldn't you agree, we need to be supportive? Let the band know they are wanted, at least by a few loud mouths on the net who only represent a small fraction of the fans around the world waiting to see and hear from them again.

Funny how you have to resort to insults when you got no leg to stand on. Pre-fucking-dictable.
You make general statements about the band can't do this or that and then it turns out you know nothing about the world outside your comer of the planet. Makes you look a bit ignorant.
Keep thinking nothing has changed, it seems to work out quite well for you.
That way you can disregard the album and the tours they've done since 2002.
It must be very convenient.

All the "they can't" do this or that. How else can you interpret it?
Isn't that what the so called haters are supposed to be doing? Telling everybody how GN'R can't do anything.

I kind of look at Axl as one of the last "Tortured" artists.
I feel Axl writes songs etc cause he has to and he doesn't do it for fame or money. So I fully understand what was said in some interview about Axl losing his "Muse"
Axl is the type of person who has to be really inspired to do something. He can't just sit down and pump out music when he isn't in the right mindframe to do so and I think touring for 99 percent of musicians is a moneymaker but to Axl, I think it is more than that.
He can't fake anything, so whereas Kiss or Bon Jovi can do tour after tour after tour, I think with Axl it runs on a very deep level that has more to do with himself internally than just simply getting onstage, entertaining the fans and collecting the money
I have realized over the past few months, that these qualities are what attracted me to Axl and what made me such a fan in the first place.
I think I have some similarities to Axl and I think like me, he lives inside himself and that is hard to break out of.

How did I insult you? By calling you sensitive? That's being kind of....
I would make the same statements about 99% of the bands touring now. People are losing their jobs so concerts don't rank high on the priority list for them. So, yes, I guess some things have changed since the last tour.
Was every show a sell out the last time they went out? Or just the ones that you went to?
Did I ever say that they were in a worldwide slump? No, just in the US. Don't put words in my mouth.

A bunch of shows were sold out. All over the world in 2006 and 2007.
But you and people like you like to act like no shows ever sold out. As I said, disregarding facts....

It wasn't intended as an insult, just some sarcasm. Sorry.
I'm asking if all the GnR shows sold out. I tried to look for the stats but couldn't find them. You have a source for this?
I never said that none of the shows sold out. Again putting words in my mouth.

No, not ALL the US shows in '02 and '06 sold out. But if that was the requirement for a tour to be successful, no one would ever tour. I don't have the statistics myself, but every show I went to was a pretty good crowd. At least enough, I think, to be considered a successful and profitable show. Again, I know nothing of the business of touring, and neither do you. What I do know however, is that Gn'R and their management know a hell of a lot more than you or I on the subject, so let's leave it to them to decide shall we? Personally, I don't give a fuck how many people are there, ya know why? Cause I will be and my favorite fucking band will be, and that's all I give a shit about.

In the hay day of the band I would be willing to bet money that all of the shows were sold out.
Why? Singles, videos, press, etc.

In the hay day most bands were selling out. People are not spending their money that way these days. Hell half of us are out of work.

It's true that the US has a huge influence on the rest of the world in many ways.
But to think the US is the only place that matters.... That's ignorant.
It's the biggest market, but you have to understand that GN'R has fans in many other countries than the USA.
So when you say something general such as "they can't sell out arenas", you're talking out of your ass.
But since some of you see everything as half empty instead of the other way around, don't start whining if there are no US tours like the one in 2006 where the band, for example, had four shows in Florida alone.
Before somebody starts asking, I have no information about any future tour. Just saying, since certain people are almost obsessed with pointing out the "half filled arenas" in the USA, don't whine if they choose to skip certain markets the next time. Maybe we'll get a completely sold out US tour, but it means your closest show is six hours away. But at least it's sold out right?

GNR needs to rebuilt from the bottom up.
Do a theater tour for CD and only then with the follow-up album should they hit up arenas.
If people go out and see a half-empty venue, they won't follow up suit. If people go to a theater and see a full crazy show, it will leave a better impression for the next record.

I agree to a point. I also think starting overseas, where they're more accepting of the band, would be a good idea. Perform well over there and drum up interest back home.
